Pine Flat United Methodist Church History
Early services were held as outdoor brush arbor meetings, and a Sacred Harp singing class was soon added, leading to annual all-day concerts which were popular at the time.
Regular services began in 1872 in a small log structure erected on the site of the present-day church.
Headed by it's first pastor, the Reverend Henry Millington Courtney, the congregations of Pine Flat Church affiliated with the Methodist Episcopal Church South in 1880. In 1881 the small, log church and the land on which it stood were deeded to a church board of trustees.
Shortly thereafter, a one-room frame church was built to replace the original log structure. At that time, Pine Flat Methodist Church had 19 church members, consisting of 8 men and 11 women.
Between 1880 and 1885, the church membership grew to include thirty-eight new members.
According to a longtime church member, boys and girls sat in separate areas of the church for Sunday school classes, a practice common to many churches of that day. Other pastors serving Mine Flat Methodist Church during this period included Reverend TlL. Foster, J.H. Brown, R.F. Cole, and W.A. Boland.
After 1900 the existing church building was replaced, once again, by a larger white frame structure. The current sanctuary was erected in 1948, and was later remodeled and enlarged to include a multipurpose room and kitchen area.

Help my unbelief
Dear God, help my unbelief. When I'm in pain, I forget that you care about me. I forget that you have helped me through my trials. I forget that you hold me in your arms to keep me safe. I forget that you are feeling my pain with me. I forget that you love me, I forget that I am important to you. Show me your presence - let me feel your enveloping love. Heal my hurting soul. Thank you for staying with me even in my unbelief.
