Who we are
Who We Are
We are a family of evangelical Christian believers in the village of Norland in the north end of City of Kawartha Lakes on highway 35 in Central Ontario. Our folks live in a beautiful area of Ontario with many lakes, some farms, and lots of forest. Some of our families have roots in the area as original settlers, while others are recent arrivals from the city seeking a rural life or as retirees. We are a blend of young families, teens, young adults, through to seniors.
Our affiliation as a local church is with the Fellowship of Evangelical Baptist churches of Canada, a group of 550 churches across the Canada with mission activities around the globe. We hold firmly to the Bible as God's revealed word to humanity. All of our programs and materials reflect this truth.

Children's Ministries
At Pioneer, we believe children need to learn the truths of Scripture in an age-appropriate way and in a safe environment. For your peace of mind, each of our classes are staffed by two people, and have vulnerable sector police checks. Our children and youth join with us for part of the morning service, and then they are dismissed to their various classes.
Our Nursery-aged children are taught about how much God loves them and helps them, using short stories from the Bible and fun activities. We have a class for Grades K - 5, as well as a class for Grades 6 to high school, that continues teaching of God's love, the consequences of sin, and the great truth of God's forgiveness in Jesus Christ. The lessons encourage deep thought about Christianity in a fast-paced, exciting, interactive manner

Pioneer Baptist Church History
How Pioneer Baptist came to today
Our church began in the 1920's when the newly wed Melishe family arrived. They were a young couple preparing for missionary work in Liberia, Africa. Their stay in Norland and area was several years They held Sunday schools in several of the one roomed school houses scattered from Miner's Bay, Buller, Head lake, to Dongola. As families gathered and folks professed faith in Christ the church grew to a point where it was felt that it would be a good idea to build a centrally located building in the larger centre of Norland. Several other Baptist missionaries served until the 1930's when Frank Vaughan arrived as a full time pastor. For 30+ years the pastors shared the church in Kinmount. Frank built the log house and the first part of the church building. 3 more additions were made to the building to bring it to the spacious facility it is today as various pastors saw the work grow. Pioneer has always placed an emphasis on reaching children and youth in the community through weekday clubs and summer ministry in partnership with Monarch Bible camp.
