Pleasant Hills United Methodist Church History
In The Beginning
On Sunday, September 8, 1957, Koeppe School on Uhlin Drive in Middleburg Heights opened its doors to serve the community as a place of worship and study for a new Methodist congregation. There were 147 persons present in the church school classes from nursery through adult and about 200 persons attended the worship service. Early in 1958, the Methodist Union of Cleveland completed the purchase of 5.9 acres with 625 foot frontage on East Bagley Road in Middleburg Heights. A temporary sign was placed on the plot, designating it as the future site of Pleasant Hills Methodist Church. In 1962, the first cornerstone of Pleasant Hills was laid "with gratitude for all whose faith and consecration made the building possible, for all who shared in their spiritual adventure, and with hope for all who shall worship in the building for years to come, in the name of Almighty God, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, unto the ages, world without end."
The New Building
Finally, after enumerable plans and planning committees, it was kairos, God's time, for a larger home for his Church at Pleasant Hills. We held the first service of worship in our church of dreams on October 22nd, in the year 2000. It is this building that we hold all three worship services today. We pray that you too will find Pleasant Hills your church home and add to our ongoing history for years to come!
Pleasant Hills Today
"God continues to call us in the present to serve him with total commitment of heart, soul, mind and body, to witness his redeeming love to each other and the world through our attitudes, words, and deeds."
Education has always been the backbone of Pleasant Hills. Today we offer Sunday school for grade school (grades K through 6), youth Sunday school and regular retreats and activities (grades 7 through 12), Adult Sunday School classes, Chancel Choir and other music ministries, Boy Scouts, Health and Wellness educational opportunities, and an educational nursery on Sunday mornings that teaches children the stories of Jesus at an early age. We believe that the children are the church of today, and it is these children who will guide our church into the future. To read more about what is going on at Pleasant Hills, check out the Good News, our church's monthly newsletter, or stop in on a Sunday morning.
