Who we are
A welcoming congregation
Based in Somerled Square in the centre of Portree, Portree Parish Church has been welcoming visitors since 1854. Built initially as a Free Church, the building became a United Free Church in 1900 before becoming part of the Church of Scotland in 1929.
We aim to be a welcoming, inclusive community and to respond to local needs in a variety of ways. Our hall is also functional space for hire in the centre of the village and used by many groups including the local food bank.
We look forward to welcoming you.
Mission Statement
We believe that our worship should be God-glorifying. relevant and Christ-centred, leading people of all ages to be brought to a saving faith in Jesus Christ; that unity and prayer are essential to the life and witness of our Church; and that all should receive a warm and caring welcome to our Church; and help and comfort given to those in need.

The present building, designed by John Hay of Liverpool, was built as a Free Church in 1854, became the United Free Church in 1900 and the Church of Scotland in 1929. St Columba and St Taraglen are depicted in stained glass windows. Other windows by Douglas Hamilton and Thomas Webster.
