Who we are
Salamonie is part of the Church of the Brethren. We began in Lancaster in 1845. A lot of changes have occurred since then, including relocating in 1964 because of the Salamonie Reservoir. However, the church holds fast to the beliefs that Jesus is our Lord and Savior and that the Bible is God’s written word to us.
If you do not have a church home, we would love for you to consider becoming a part of our fellowship. We are not perfect, but try to the best of our ability to be the people God wants us to be.
If you aren’t comfortable with us, please find a church home where you can develop your faith. Having a personal relationship with God and being a part of the family of God gives us great strength, peace and hope.

Leader Bio:
Our pastor is Mel Zumbrun. He is originally from Wolf Lake, IN and grew up on the family farm just outside of town. He graduated from Central Noble High School, where he was very active in extra-curricular activities, including: stage band, madrigals, a barbershop quartet, tennis, basketball and track.
His family was quite active in the Blue River Church of the Brethren (CoB). Mel accepted Jesus as the Lord of his life and was baptized on November 19, 1971. His great-grandfather and his grandfather were ministers in the CoB as well.
He graduated from Fort Wayne Bible College (since bought by Taylor Univ.) with a B. S. degree. He had majors in Biblical Studies and Pastoral Ministries with a minor in Christian Counseling. He worked at the Markle CoB, was on the dorm council and played on the college basketball team while at FWBC.
Mel married his college sweetheart, Teresa Clayton. Teresa (Terry) grew up in a Christian home and overseas, as her parents were missionaries in Burundi, Africa. Mel and Terry were blessed with three daughters and have added a son-in-law and grandson to their family.
Mel worked four years at the Union Center CoB, outside of Nappanee, IN. He was a Youth Minister and the Christian Education Director. Next, he and his family moved to southern Illinois, where he pastured the Allison Prairie CoB for eleven years. He also worked as a high school girls basketball coach and as a school teacher while pastoring in Illinois.
In 2002, the Zumbruns moved back to Indiana, as Mel was hired to pastor the Salamonie CoB. In addition to his pastoral work, he has been active in serving on the South Central Indiana District Board, coaching at the Civic Center in Warren and coaching at the Salamonie Junior High.

Teach us, good Lord, to serve Thee as Thou deservest: To give and not to count the cost; To fight and not to heed the wounds; To toil and not to seek for rest; To labour and not ask for any reward, save that of knowing that we do Thy will.
