Salt.Central History
"Let me tell you why you are here. You're here to be salt-seasoning that brings out the God-flavors of this earth. If you lose your saltiness, how will people taste godliness? You've lost your usefulness and will end up in the garbage" (Matthew 5:13)
Our Story
Salt is an Assemblies of God church and one of the first in our movement to form in 1927. Our senior pastor Russell, along with his wife Andrea have been in pastoral ministry here since 1994, starting out leading the youth ministry and now leading the church. People often ask, “What does the name Salt mean?” which is exactly why we chose it; so people would be curious and ask. Jesus told us in Matthew 5:13 that we were to be salt in the world. The Message puts it this way "Let me tell you why you are here. You're here to be salt-seasoning that brings out the God-flavours of this earth. If you lose your saltiness, how will people taste godliness? You've lost your usefulness and will end up in the garbage" (Matthew 5:13)
As a church we place a high value on being salt seasoning that brings out the God-flavours of this earth. We do this by choosing to have a positive attitude, a joyful heart, and a love for people, God and life. We believe that as people encounter this attitude in us, they encounter God.
We have a basic ministry philosophy that goes like this: Belong, Believe, Behave. What this means is that when someone comes to Salt Central, we aim to make them feel like they belong before they believe in Jesus or behave like a Christian. We believe that loving acceptance and belonging must come first, just as Jesus demonstrated by His acceptance of people from all walks of life.
We have a strong emphasis on making disciples who will then make more disciples. Our goal is to equip people to serve God and reproduce their lives into others, walking alongside them and helping them grow in their faith. We also have a high value on developing genuine Christian community that really cares for and supports one another and is not afraid to be open, honest and transparent.
Ultimately, we have our eyes set on the nations of the world and carrying our Jesus’ great commission to ‘go into all the world and make disciples of all nations’. We have several overseas mission fields that we support and we are seeking to release more people to serve overseas.
All of this is summarised in our mission statement:
Love People • Make Disciples • Build Community • Impact Nations

"Prayer is not so much an act as it is an attitude - an attitude of dependency, dependency upon God".
