San Nicolas Church of Christ History
The San Nicolas church of Christ was planted in Aruba in the 1950's. As workers with the Lago Oil Refinery in Texas were sent to work in Aruba, they brought the gospel with them. At one time there were almost 150 members of the church of Christ in San Nicolas, but most were Americans.
When Lago started sending the Americans home, they also sent most of the Christians away as well. The church was left with only a few members but ones who were determined to walk with God. The church has continued to worship in spirit and truth to this day.
There are now two congregations in Aruba; San Nicolas, which is an English speaking congregation and Tamarijn, which is a Papiamentu speaking congregation. There is a total membership in Aruba of about 140. About 70 in Tamarijn and about 70 in San Nicolas.
