Who we are
Servant Church is a missional community of believers and seekers, coming from different backgrounds and perspectives to explore and follow the way of Jesus together. We are a people drawn together by the love of God in Christ, seeking to become a picture of God’s love for Austin and the world.
We’re honest about the questions we have, and there’s a place for you whatever your faith background. Join us to ask questions, to serve with us, to have fun getting to know new people. We’re seeking and finding life in Jesus – his life, his teaching, his death, and resurrection. We believe that because Jesus poured out his life as a servant to all, we are compelled and empowered to do the same. Having been served by the love of God, we are becoming servants in Christ’s image by the power of the Holy Spirit.
As a church in the Church Universal, we work to live a Christ-centered life. We endeavor to be a family to all who enter our doors (and to all we meet). As a community, we seek to make the love of Christ—rather than agreement—the center of our lives. As such, we welcome all people, including LGBTQIA folks, immigrants, and all who have ever felt unwelcome in a church.

Leader Bio:
I am the Lead Pastor at Servant Church Austin, which allows me to spend a lot of time in a city that I love with people that I love. I “grew up in the church,” which is really just to say that I have gone to various churches my entire life and have found immense hope, peace, love, forgiveness, and purpose in my faith in God throughout various seasons of my life. I also have a passion for ensuring that the Church is not represented by an outdated set of rules, generated from a set of doctrines that require treating some people as “less-than.” That is not at all a part of my faith in Jesus, and I am dedicated to fostering a community of people who can help this world better understand this radical prophet who lived more than 2000 years ago. I believe that man, Jesus, was God entering into human flesh, living with us, showing us how to be in relationship with God and with each other; and I submit daily to my decision to follow him and learn who and how I am created to be God’s love and light in this world.
My ministry passions include preaching and teaching the word of God, meeting people where they are, sharing stories, organizing the life and vision of our church, and administering the sacraments – the bread and wine at the communion table and the baptismal waters at the font. It is in these experiences that I believe we encounter God in mysterious and holy ways. I also believe it is possible and necessary for us to see God at work in our everyday life, not just in special contemplative moments removed from the mucky stuff and the chaos. One of my favorite quotes from Paula D’Arcy expresses this beautifully, “God often comes to you disguised as your life.” My life is pretty ordinary, but it’s also pretty beautiful.
I spent my first decade out of college doing the corporate life in Dallas, where I led the customer experience for Southwest Airlines’ digital platforms. These days, I enjoy exploring the sights and sounds of Austin and spend most of my time wrangling my two boys, Andrew and Brooks. I love craft beer, kickboxing, spending time with family and friends, and attending Longhorn football and baseball games. I also love a clean house, but amidst the legos, toy trains, and star wars figurines, I have come to accept that won’t happen until around the year 2035.

Let no darkness overtake me
Visit, I beseech thee, O Lord, this habitation with thy mercy, and me with thy grace and salvation. Let thy holy angels pitch their tents round about and dwell here, that no illusion of the night may abuse me, the spirits of darkness may not come near to hurt me, no evil or sad accident oppress me; and let the eternal Spirit of the Father dwell in my soul and body, filling every corner of my heart with light and grace. Let no deed of darkness overtake me; and let thy blessing, most blessed God, be upon me for ever, through Christ our Lord. Amen.
