Who we are
The Silver Spring Presbyterian Church in Maryland, USA (SSPC) founded on March 29, 1953, is an Arena Style/round church that as a More-Light congregation embraces Christians irrespective of color, age, race, sexual orientation and gender. There are two church services each Sunday: one at 10:45am and a French language service at 4:00pm. Music, which is an important part of our services, includes songs and praise every Sunday.
We are proud of our diversity as our parishioners come from all over the world with a large majority from Cameroon and other West African countries.
The church leadership includes the Senior Pastor, a French speaking Pastor and a Parish Associate. In addition, the church also employs a full-time church Office Manager and a part-time Music Director.
Currently, Silver Spring Presbyterian Church has 13 active Elders and 17 Deacons. SSPC has several active fellowship groups. Included among these are: the Christian Women Fellowship (CWF); the Christian Men Fellowship (CMF); the Christian Youth Fellowship (CYF). We also have several Bible Study and prayer groups, a weekly French language prayer group, Bible Study and Prayer evening groups. Our youths are very active in leading worship.

The Spirit of God calls us together in witness, celebration and struggle. As followers of Jesus Christ, we seek to be a people of vibrant faith, proclaiming the Word, and serving each other and the world as a community of responsible stewards of God’s grace.
Silver Spring Presbyterian Church has a strong commitment to serving God in Jesus Christ with our whole lives and spirit. SSPC is a racially diverse, multicultural, and inclusive congregation.
Silver Spring has a history of following Jesus’ commandment to love and serve our fellow humans, with a strong commitment to mission, locally, nationally, and internationally. We volunteer at a local soup kitchen and at Habitat for Humanity.
We have a community garden on our grounds from which fresh produces are shared with soup kitchens. We support the food pantry with donations of cash and non-perishable food items and a local shelter, with clothing.

A native of Somerset NJ, Reverend Dr. Hankins (Pastor Ron) has been serving as the pastor of Silver Spring Presbyterian Church since February of 2021. Prior to his ministry in at Silver Spring, Dr. Hankins was the pastor of First Presbyterian Church of Odessa, Texas, Trinity Presbyterian Church of Baltimore, Maryland, as well as Woodville Presbyterian Church of Richmond, Virginia. Dr. Hankins is married to the former Ms.
Linda Jones of Williamsburg, Virginia and together they share a blended family of four adult children. Dr. Hankins is also retired military chaplain, having completed a total of 23 years of military service which included 13 years in the U.S. Marine Corps (Enlisted), 6 years in the U.S. Naval Chaplain Corps, and 4 years with District of Columbia Air National Guard as a Reserve Air Force chaplain.
Educational accomplishments include:
Doctor of Ministry – Regent University School of Divinity, Virginia Beach, VA. (May 2018).
Master of Divinity – Union Presbyterian Seminary, Richmond, VA. (May 1999).
Master of Science in Adult Education, Coppin University, Baltimore, MD, (May 2008).
Bachelor of Science in Business Management, Park University, Parkville, MO. (Magna Cum Laude, May 1993).
Certificate in Executive Leadership – McCormick Theological Seminary, Chicago IL. (July 2020).
Dr. Hankins is a dedicated pastor and community servant, a loving husband and a devoted father. He truly loves the Lord and holds a deep-seated passion for serving all of God’s people both within the church and within the local community. Dr. Hankins tries to live his life according to the following motto:
Every circumstance, whether it be positive or negative, is an opportunity to exercise our faith and trust in The Lord…Therefore in all things – whatever the situation or circumstance may be… Always Be Encouraged!
