Who we are
The Silver Spring Presbyterian Church in Maryland, USA (SSPC) founded on March 29, 1953, is an Arena Style/round church that as a More-Light congregation embraces Christians irrespective of color, age, race, sexual orientation and gender. There are two church services each Sunday: one at 10:45am and a French language service at 4:00pm. Music, which is an important part of our services, includes songs and praise every Sunday.
We are proud of our diversity as our parishioners come from all over the world with a large majority from Cameroon and other West African countries.
The church leadership includes the Senior Pastor, a French speaking Pastor and a Parish Associate. In addition, the church also employs a full-time church Office Manager and a part-time Music Director.
Currently, Silver Spring Presbyterian Church has 13 active Elders and 17 Deacons. SSPC has several active fellowship groups. Included among these are: the Christian Women Fellowship (CWF); the Christian Men Fellowship (CMF); the Christian Youth Fellowship (CYF). We also have several Bible Study and prayer groups, a weekly French language prayer group, Bible Study and Prayer evening groups. Our youths are very active in leading worship.
Our Mission
The Spirit of God calls us together in witness, celebration and struggle. As followers of Jesus Christ, we seek to be a people of vibrant faith, proclaiming the Word, and serving each other and the world as a community of responsible stewards of God’s grace.
Silver Spring Presbyterian Church has a strong commitment to serving God in Jesus Christ with our whole lives and spirit. SSPC is a racially diverse, multicultural, and inclusive congregation.
Silver Spring has a history of following Jesus’ commandment to love and serve our fellow humans, with a strong commitment to mission, locally, nationally, and internationally. We volunteer at a local soup kitchen and at Habitat for Humanity.
We have a community garden on our grounds from which fresh produces are shared with soup kitchens. We support the food pantry with donations of cash and non-perishable food items and a local shelter, with clothing.
