Who we are
We are a rural congregation who enjoy traditional services and a good sing of well-known hymns, especially when they have a good bass line!
We are welcoming and inclusive, enjoying our tea and fellowship after every service.
We are well known for some of our particular traditions, like our early start on Christmas morning (5.30am to sing down the village!).
At our recent Church Council meeting we voted to welcome same sex couples seeking to be married in the church.
All are welcome

Sparrowpit Methodist Church History
Methodism on North Derbyshire started in 1738 at Barmoor Farm on the hillside opposite the current Sparrowpit Church. David and Amy Taylor were converted to Methodism and opened their Barn for Methodist Services and the first Class Meeting in the Peak District was formed. The barn was used for more than 50 years until the first small chapel was built in Sparrowpit.
In the early days the main pillar of the Church was John Hallam "the Blacksmith of the Peak". John's descendants and relations continue to this day in the congregation.
The present Chapel and School were built on the site of the old chapel at a cost of £740, all raised by donation in a very short space of time.
