Who we are
When you visit Spring Valley, feel free to wear whatever clothing is comfortable for you. We are worshipful, but not overly formal. The Pastor will most likely be the only one wearing a coat and tie.
One distinctive of Spring Valley is our music. We love to sing harmony on the old hymns, often without accompaniment, yet utilize the piano during other parts of worship services.
Sunday School classes are provided for children, youth and adults. A nursery is available.

Leader Bio:
Our Pastor, Rev. David L. Norris, has been at Spring Valley since late in 2013.
He grew up on a small dairy farm in Southern Missouri, and attended the University of Missouri where he earned a BS in Forestry in 1971. While at the University he became involved with a student Christian group, Campus Crusade for Christ (now CRU). Upon graduation, David joined the staff of Campus Crusade where he served for 10 years, primarily in the Music Ministry. He met his wife Alice, who also was a staff member of CCC, and they were married in 1975. They have five grown children and eleven grandchildren.
In 1981, David and Alice moved to Dallas Texas to attend Dallas Theological Seminary, graduating in 1986 with a Master in Theology degree. He was ordained in his home church (Mt. Comfort Bible Church) near Springfield Missouri. David served in Kingwood Texas as Pastor of Youth and Christian Education, a position which grew into Pastor of Family Ministries. In 1992 he was called to be the Senior Pastor at Garden Mennonite Church (now Garden Community Church) in rural Hesston Kansas, where he served until 2001.
He then joined the staff of East Evangelical Free Church in Wichita Kansas, where he served as Associate Pastor of Families. He was ordained in the Evangelical Free denomination during this time. After eight years in Wichita, David served in an interim position in Sterling Kansas before becoming the Pastor at Spring Valley. His present ordination rests with the South-Central Mennonite Conference.
David enjoys hunting, fishing, gardening and woodworking.

Spring Valley Mennonite Church History
Spring Valley Mennonite Church, of rural Canton, was founded in 1873 when Bishop Daniel Brundage organized a congregation of various Mennonite homesteaders who had migrated from eastern states. A 14-mile furrow plowed in the virgin prairie marked the route to the church for some of the original members who lived at a distance.
The first meeeting house was built in 1875 on the southeast coner of Bishop Brundage's homestead at a cost of $400. The builidng had multiple purposes, including use as a school house.
Only a few years later the congregation hosted the organizational meeting of the old Kansas-Nebraska Conference. The church hosted the first evangelistic meetings in the Kansas-Nebraska Conference, and was one of the first member churches to implement Sunday schools, both of which were controversial at the time within the (Old) Mennonite Church.
