St. Aloysius Church Plantsville Photos

St. Aloysius Church History

St. Aloysius parish was established in 1961 on 11 1/2 acres of land. It boasts a beautiful C.C.D. center and administrative office building (2008) and a beautiful rectory built in 1973.

In 1960, Fr. William Kennedy, Pastor of St. Thomas Parish, purchased the land on Burritt St. in the Plantsville section of Southington.

In 1961, Fr. Robert J. Chagnon was named first pastor of the newly established St. Aloysius Parish. Mass was initially held in the old Milldale school. Over the next few years the church and parish hall were built. A dedication Mass with Archbishop Henry J. O'Brien was held in April, 1964.

In the year 2021, with a steady decline in priests and parishioners continuing in the Catholic population, St. Thomas Church, Immaculate Conception Church, and St. Dominic Church were beginning the start of a townwide merge and parishioners began to attend Masses at the two merged church buildings. In the fall of 2022, the merge of St. Thomas Parish, St. Dominic Parish, Immaculate Conception Parish, Mary Our Queen Parish, and St. Aloysius Parish into St. Luke Parish became formalized.
