Who we are
Welcome to St. Andrew’s-Wesley, an open-hearted, open-minded, inclusive church that walks in the path of Jesus because we long for greater peace, love and justice in the world. Located in the West End neighbourhood of Vancouver, we are here for you, no matter what part of your journey you are on.
St. Andrew’s-Wesley respectfully acknowledges that we gather on the unceded lands of the xʷməθkwəy̓əm (Musqueam), Skwxwú7mesh (Squamish), and Səl̓ílwətaɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations. For thousands of years, First Nations people have walked on this land and their relationship with the land is at the centre of their lives and spirituality. As a church, and settlers on these shores, we have a life-long responsibility to unlearn our misunderstandings of history, territory, and identity through critical reflection, acknowledgement, and listening.

Leader Bio:
Dan came to St. Andrew’s Wesley in the summer of 2013 and has been energized, stretched and fortified by this shared ministry every year, every day. The heart of Christianity, he believes, is discovered at the intersection of spirituality and social justice, because the outer journey and the inner are not two but one. Care of the soul and care of the world go together like the inhalation and exhalation of our breath.
Dan has been in pastoral ministry since 1993. He holds a Master of Divinity and an MA in Comparative Religion with a focus on Zen Buddhism and Christianity from the Pacific School of Religion in California. He taught “The Life and Times of Jesus” at Orange Coast College, and also “The Living Religions of the World” at Chapman University.
Dan loves a good walk, a great movie or play, an incredible meal around the table, and encounters that open the mind and heart. He delights in any music that moves the soul and is inspired by communities of compassion.
Married to Rev. Janet Gear and father of two amazing people, Dan is nourished by the love of family, a circle of friends near and far and the cantankerous wisdom of a community of faith that both unsettles assumptions and tethers to what is most real.

St. Andrew's-Wesley United Church History
Built almost 90 years ago, St. Andrew’s-Wesley was designed by architects Twizell & Twizell using locally sourced materials. We are known for our soaring vaulted roof, original stained glass windows, and angel reliefs.
As a designated heritage building, the restoration of St. Andrew’s-Wesley centered around maintaining these features while making essential upgrades. We now have a space steeped in beauty and history that meets the needs of our staff, congregation, and community; today, tomorrow, and into the future.
The restoration of St. Andrew’s-Wesley wouldn’t be possible without the generous contributions and unwavering support of our community. We can now offer additional programming and come together to worship, celebrate important life moments, and connect through art.

Forgive us
O God, forgive the poverty and the pettiness of our prayers . Listen not to our words but to the yearnings of our hearts. Hear beneath our petitions the crying of our need.
