Who we are
Welcome to St Augustine's Church Highbury.
We are an Anglican church in the Evangelical tradition, reflecting the very mixed population of Highbury. Our church members are mainly local, range from 0 to 91, and represent 17 different nationalities at the last count. We believe that everyone, of whatever age or background, is highly valued by God, and we want to reflect that in all that we do. We take the Bible seriously... and want to understand it and live by it. We aim to make our Sunday services accessible to all, with wide participation. Some of our best learning happens in small groups – so 5 adult Home Groups meet each week (including a morning group with a crèche), and age-related groups for our young people (aged 3 – 18) on Sunday mornings. For those wanting an introduction to the Christian faith, a Christianity Explored course is run each autumn.
We take children seriously... and enjoy them! - and want to support them and their parents. The St Augustine’s Playgroup meets each weekday morning. Hippo Babies (Friday am) and Hippo Club (Thursday am – for pre-schoolers) are hugely popular. We also run a monthly Groundbreakers Club (for 7-11 year olds), and a week-long Holiday Bible Club in the summer holidays (for 5-11 year olds).
And we take God’s world seriously...
As well as long-standing missionary links in Asia and Africa, we have focussed in recent years on Tearfund, Mission Aviation Fellowship, A Rocha, Church Mission Society and the local Asylum-Seekers Centre. In 2004 we became a Fair Trade church. We participated in the MakePovertyHistory campaign of 2005, Stop Climate Chaos in 2006, and continue to support The Micah Challenge's campaign against global poverty.
Lots of serious things – but we hope you’ll also find St Augustine’s a place of warmth, fun and laughter. Come and see!

Make me stand out
Father, make of me a crisis man. Bring those I contact to decision. Let me not be a milepost on a single road; make me a fork, that men must turn one way or another on facing Christ in me.
