Who we are
The heritage of St. James Anglican Church dates back over half a century to the end of World War II. The area surrounding the Roseland Golf Course was offered at a low cost, to returning war veterans. As families moved into the neighbourhood, the Anglican Church saw the need to establish its presence among them. The Parish of St. James Roseland was officially approved on November 11, 1949.
The existing property was purchased and the newly-formed Board of Management launched the building program on January 19, 1950 with the Turning of the Sod Ceremony on September 20th of that same year and the Dedication Service on January 28, 1951.
As membership grew, plans were made to build a new church. Construction on the current Church began on September 11, 1966 with the Dedication Service on December 2nd of the same year! The Old Church was converted into a Parish Hall which has since been used by our Sunday School, the Girl Guides and many other groups and social events almost every day of the week.
Over the years, St. James has established itself as a vibrant, warm and friendly community that ministers to its members and the community beyond. Through our Outreach Program, we help many other worthy organizations.
Our community consists of young, middle age and elderly families. We represent a good cross-section of our society and we draw our members from many different ethnic backgrounds; a very healthy mix.
We have come a long way, and we would like to think that we have a lot to offer in the line of ministry and fellowship. We invite you to join us and we know that you will feel welcome the moment you step through our doors.
We consider it our privilege to serve you and we know that you will enhance our ministry with the gifts you will bring with you. Together we continue to write the history of St. James.
