Who we are
St. James' parish was officially founded in September 1953. Bishop Dixon gave us the name of St. James' to perpetuate the name of the former Church in Berthierville. We were given some of the furniture from Berthierville, notably the altar, lectern, prayer desks, font and bell.
One of the most public-spirited citizens in Rosemere was Mr. Leonard Thomas Havill, fondly called Poppa Havill by all who knew and admired him. The Havill family donated the land and took a very active part in the planning and building of St. James Anglican Church. Tom Havill was one of the original founding members of the Church, he was also its Warden, Treasurer and Envelope Secretary.
On June 23, 1955, construction of St. James' was started and completed in early December. The Church was dedicated December 21, 1955 by Bishop Dixon with Archdeacon Morris and Canon G. Oliver assisting. Canon Oliver was appointed Priest-in-Charge in February 1956.
The congregation while small is devoted to the church; a lovely church surrounded by trees in a peaceful residential setting away from the main roads.
St James offers spiritual guidance, social activities as well as fundraisers. The Outreach Ministry of St James the weekly Drop-In Centre on Wednesdays provides a place for people who need a break, to meet, to chat, to reflect, and to make new friends and enjoy each other's company; all while enjoying a cup of coffee and a bowl of soup. Administered by Becky and Winston Fraser it is the highlight of the week for many area residents.

You are...
You are the shade in the heat, You are shelter in the cold, You are eyes to the blind, You are a staff to the pilgrim, You are an island in the sea, You are a stronghold upon land, You are healing to the sick. You are the luck of every joy, You are the light of the sun's beam, You are the door of lordly welcome, You are the pole star of guidance, You are the step of the roe of the height, You are the step of the white-faced mare, You are the grace of the swimming swan, You are the jewel in each mystery.
