Who we are
Welcome!
St. John’s Ida is an Anglican Church, about 15 minutes west of Peterborough, with a long and rich history. Our mission statement is “To know Christ and to make him known”. This shapes the life of our community.
At a recent meeting the following responses were offered to the question: “what do we hold most dear?”
Family Scripture Gospel Preaching Music Feeling at Home Fellowship (caring within the Church family and beyond) That we know our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ and we want to make him known.
We seek to cultivate a welcoming community where all people can come and grow in the knowledge and love of God who has made himself known supremely in Jesus Christ and who is present by the Holy Spirit.
If you are looking for a church family, regardless of your church background, where you can make new friends, belong and feel at home, then we encourage you to join us on a Sunday morning (9:30am). In addition to Sunday mornings we have a variety of activities that go on during the week, depending on the time of year (Tuesday Night Dinners, Bible Studies, Youth Groups, T-Ball, to name a few).

Worship Services
SUNDAY: Our Sunday service is held at 9:30 am.
We gather on Sunday mornings at 9:30 am. The first, third and fifth Sundays of each month are Holy Communion, while the second and fourth are services of Morning Prayer. Both forms of worship include prayer, Bible readings, uplifting hymns and songs and a hope-filled message.
THE CHRISTMAS SEASON:
Christmas Eve we begin our celebration of this most Holy Night at 7:00 pm. with a service for families and children. At 9:00 p.m. we have a quieter more reflective service.
On Christmas Day our service at 9:30 a.m.
NEW YEAR’S EVE:
On December 31st at 5:00 pm in the afternoon we hold a service of “Memories and Dreams”. This is a quiet, reflective service in which there is an opportunity to bring some closure to the year that is just ending, and to ask God’s blessing on our memories of what has been and on our hopes for what is to come.
THE LENTEN AND EASTER SEASON:
We begin our observation of Lent with an Ash Wednesday service held in the evening. During Holy week we offer Eucharist at mid-day on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.
On Holy Thursday our service is in the evening with Eucharist. On Good Friday, at 11:00 am. there is a reading of the Passion and a Meditation of the Cross. Easter Sunday is a joyful celebration with Holy Eucharist and joyous music.
ROGATION:
In the Spring, around the time of the May 24th weekend, a time when we ask God’s blessing for the farms, farmers, animals and crops being planted. This service is normally held outside.
HARVEST THANKSGIVING:
Being a rural community, Harvest Thanksgiving is very significant. We celebrate with Holy Eucharist on the Sunday of Thanksgiving weekend.
WEDDINGS AND BAPTISMS:
Weddings and Baptisms are arranged through the Rector. Baptism are usually held within the Sunday Eucharist Service.
It's been more than 9 years since the last service times update. Please make sure to contact the church to confirm service times.

You are...
You are the shade in the heat, You are shelter in the cold, You are eyes to the blind, You are a staff to the pilgrim, You are an island in the sea, You are a stronghold upon land, You are healing to the sick. You are the luck of every joy, You are the light of the sun's beam, You are the door of lordly welcome, You are the pole star of guidance, You are the step of the roe of the height, You are the step of the white-faced mare, You are the grace of the swimming swan, You are the jewel in each mystery.
