Who we are
St Luke's exists not only for those who worship here, but as an inspiration and support for the wider community. We seek to work with others in the development of a just and safe society. It is expected that those employed by the Church will spend several hours a week in conjunction with the local community. Our involvement includes Supportline Women’s Refuge and the Kerr Taylor Foundation Trust Board. We actively and financially support the Auckland City Mission, Overseas Missions, Christian World Service, Anglican Youth, and Selwyn Village. The St Luke's Opportunity Shop is open on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday from 10:00am to 1:00pm. We also host the Beneficiaries Advice Mt Albert (BAMA) service. BAMA offers professional support and advice to beneficiaries and low-income individuals, one day a week.Mission Statement
The Parish of Saint Luke Mount Albert affirms the mission statement of the Anglican Church in Aotearoa, New Zealand and Polynesia
• To proclaim the Good News • To nurture new believers • To transform unjust structures • To respond to human needs • To care for the environment • Acknowledging the Church’s commitment to Scripture, Tradition and Reason, and recognising our local heritage, we seek to live out this statement in our worship and education, our relationships with one another, the ways we respond to the community and the ordering of our Parish life.
In so doing we endeavour to express the principles of peace, justice, reconciliation, inclusiveness, stewardship of creation, bi-cultural partnership and ministry of all the baptised.
Affirmed at Meeting of Parishioners 19 June Anno Domini 1994
Vestry Statement on Reconciliation and Inclusiveness Jesus celebrated the diversity of humanity and counted as friends both the respectable and those excluded by society. Regrettably the Christian Church is not always so inclusive and at times rejects those who are perceived as different.
We of this parish, dedicated to Saint Luke the Healer, wish to be reconciled with those who have been and are excluded from full participation in the life of the Christian community. We actively invite and encourage the involvement of everyone in the various aspects of life together. We oppose any form of unjust discrimination and seek justice where there is oppression. We identify the following areas (supported by the Human Rights legistation of 1993) where we need to be particularly vigilant: gender, colour, ethnic or national origin, age, sexual orientation, disability, health, marital status, family status, employment status, political opinion, spirituality, ethical belief.
Saint Luke’s welcomes all people. Saint Luke’s welcomes you.
