Who we are
Welcome to The Parish of St. Marguerite Bourgoeys
We were established as a parish on June 9, 2013 and chose St. Marguerite Bourgeoys to be our Patron Saint. October 19, 2014 our building was officially named St. Marguerite Bourgeoys.
We chose her because, just as she developed new ways of responding to the changing pastoral needs of her time, we now find ourselves in a similar situation. We also chose her because of the strong historical links to the Diocese of Antigonish and her religious family of Congregation of Notre Dame.
The specific needs which led to the formation of our parish were the dwindling number of priests and parishioners and the rising costs of maintaining multiple structures. After the process of lengthy discernment the four parishes — Saint Anthony Daniel – Alexander St, Saint Joseph – Cabot St, Immaculate Heart – Mira Road and Sacred Heart – George St — became one with the new parish of St. Marguerite Bourgeoys.

St. Marguerite Bourgoeys
St. Marguerite Bourgoeys
Born: April 17, 1620
Canonized: October 31, 1982
Feast Day: January 12th
Hymn to St. Marguerite Bourgeoys
Sr. Rita Clare
St. Marguerite of Canada, Your praise we proudly sing,
Your Constancy, your spirit free, inspired the colonists of Ville Marie,
Your charity embraced both friend and foe, the love of God you wanted all to know, the light of truth you planted firm, in this fair Land of Canada
St. Marguerite of Canada, You travelled sea to sea,
In search of workers to sow the seeds of truth and learning in Ville Marie.
Your trust in God withstood all trial and pain,
Your only prayer, “May God’s Kingdom reign”,
You legacy a sisterhood to spread the gospel in New France.
St. Marguerite of Canada, the work which you began,
Has spread to countries far and wide to Africa and to Japan
Your holiness our Mother Church proclaims,
With her we praise and glorify God’s Name,
We sing our joy and gratitude, St. Marguerite of Canada
St. Marguerite of Canada, This church which bears your name
Will nourish truth and faith and love, in the hearts of all who seek the same.
Your sisters labored faithfully and long, their work of education will go on,
The torch they lit continues bright, in this our own Cape Breton home.
