St Nicholas' Church Service Times
Choral Evensong
A rare chance to come and listen to the traditional and beautiful service of Evensong held in the tranquil surroundings of the 11th oldest church in the country.
Sung by Worth Choir and Directed by Alex Hiam. Music will include Preces and Responses by Smith, Canticles in D by Dyson and the anthem "Cantate Domino" by Monteverdi. The Voluntary will be the third movement of Trio Sonata in E flat Major BWV 525, by J.S. Bach
If you are not accustomed to this traditional service, it is one that has been sung regularly in Church since the Sixteenth Century, and was based on the Services held daily in the medieval church. It's the high proportion of music in Evensong which distinguishes it from other church services.
It is free to come to hear its choral music, performed live and to a high standard.

Sunday
Holy Communion
A quiet, contemplative start to Sunday to inspire you for the rest of the day using traditional prayers and readings from the Book of Common Prayer, spoken not sung. The poetic words, as well as St Nicholas’s awe-inspiring Saxon arches, ensure you feel part of a long line of worshippers who have praised and sought God’s help in this corner of Sussex down the ages.
Every Sunday at 8:00 AM for 40 minutes
Sung Eucharist
This is our main Sunday service with a strong musical content led by an excellent choir. Modern language is used but the music tends towards the more traditional. You can find out what hymns will be sung and what anthem the choir will be singing by looking at our latest music list on the website.
Every Sunday at 9:45 AM for 1 hour and 10 minutes.

Teach me
Teach me, O God, to use all the circumstances of my life to-day that they may bring forth in me the fruits of holiness rather than the fruits of sin. Let me use disappointment as material for patience: Let me use success as material for thankfulness: Let me use suspence as material for perseverance: Let me use danger as material for courage: Let me use reproach as material for longsuffering: Let me use praise as material for humility: Let me use pleasures as material for temperance: Let me use pains as material for endurance.
