Who we are
Welcome to St. Peter's Church, Borger, Texas located in the heart of the Texas Panhandle! Our congregation may be small but we are a warm and friendly family that welcomes visitors at all times. Our weekly bulletins are provided as a guide for our services, the Book of Common Prayer, and chosen hymns. Involvement in the life of our church is encouraged. Coffee & snacks after each Sunday morning service and occasional lunches throughout the year are enjoyed by members and our guests. The service at st. Peter's Episcopal Church is centered on the study of God's Holy Scriptures. We believe that prayer and study are the keys to making wise decisions in our lives. We pray for our church, community, family members, and friends - specifically, those who are ill or have lost loved ones.
We believe in ministering to the needs of those less fortunate in our community. We donate treasure
and volunteer time to our ministry outreach projects. Some of these projects include High Plains Helping Hands (the local food bank), the Hutchinson County Crisis Center (a woman & children's shelter), Rainbow Room (provides children in the foster care system toys at Christmas & assistance throughout the year), the Golden Plains Hospital Auxiliary, Meals on Wheels, the Red Cross, and the Salvation Army. St. Peter's provides daily devotional booklets in both English and Spanish for use in area prisons.

St. Peter's Episcopal Church History
St. Peter’s Episcopal Church in Borger, Texas was organized in 1927 by a group of Episcopalians who had come to the new oil “boom town” of Borger a year after its founding hoping to gain from the economic opportunities offered. The earliest members included Dr. and Mrs. W. C. Graves and family, Ike M. Rogers, Dr. & Mrs. Harvey Crosby and family and Mrs. L. C. (Dorethea) Hansen. Meeting first in Dr. Graves’ office in the 500 block of North Main Street, the group later met in two different funerals homes and the American Legion Hall.
Three daughters of the first members of the congregation remained members until their deaths. Patricia Crosby Johnson White, daughter of Dr. Harvey Crosby, was a member of St. Peter’s until her death in 1997. Her sister, Eileen Crosby Coyne passed away in 1998. Mrs. Lucy Ann Berry, daughter of Dr. & Mrs. Graves, remained a member of St. Peter’s until her death in 2003.
The first permanent home of the congregation was a 20’ x 30’ structure at the corner of Third and McGee streets built on land donated by member Ike Rogers and businessman Guy Yiantsu. The first minister to serve St. Peter’s was the Rev. Edgar Henshaw, a traveling clergyman who also had the responsibility for conducting services in Clarendon, Pampa, Childress, Quanah, Dumas and Shamrock in the Texas Panhandle.
The Rev. and Mrs. Walter Hoskins came to Borger in 1955. Shortly after their arrival, construction began on a new building at the corner of Madison and Hemlock Streets. This brick building, enlarged by two additions, continues to serve the congregation as a place of worship.
During the years 1960-2007 St. Peter’s was served by several priests: the Rev. Robert Tobin, The Rev. Edward Fry, the Rev. Robert Hibbs, the Rev. W. C. Houghton, the Rev. Joseph Kennedy and the Rev. Larry Spannagel. The current priest, David Williams was educated in the Deacon Formation Program organized by the Episcopal Diocese of Northwest Texas , a program of study to train and educate local church members to serve their local congregations. David Williams was ordained to the Deaconate in 2006 and became a priest in 2007. David Williams is a Community Priest who provides St. Peter’s with services on Sundays and Holy Days. He is employed full-time by the Canadian River Municipal Water Authority.

Open our ears.
Blessed Lord, open our ears to hear what Thou speakest and our eyes to see as Thou seest. Give us hearts to beat in sympathy with Thine at the sight of every little child; and above all, our Lord, to understand and experience how surely and how blessedly Thou fulfilest Thy promise, "Whoso shall receive one such little child in my name receiveth me."
