Who we are
We are a medium-sized, bilingual (English and Spanish) faith community who seek to be strengthened through the celebration of the sacraments, and most especially through the celebration of the Eucharist, in order to fulfill our vocation as ambassadors of Christ.
We seek to: grow in our relationship with God firstly through the celebration of the Eucharist, which is the summit and fountain of the life of the Church; we seek a greater knowledge of God through the faith formation programs offered to our members of all ages; we seek to serve those in need through our ministerial outreach efforts; we seek to support those dealing with loss in their lives through our compassionate presence and care; and we seek to celebrate our lives as members of the Body of Christ through various social activities.

St. Thomas the Apostle Church History
History of St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church Huntsville, Texas
Though St. Thomas Catholic Church of Huntsville has been a parish for only twenty-five years, the history of the Catholic Church in the area dates back almost 150 years, to the founding of the Diocese of Galveston-Houston.
In 1848, priests from Galveston and Houston began visiting inmates of the Texas prisons in the Huntsville area. In 1910, Rev. Peter Tonson, an oblate priest, was appointed the permanent chaplain for the prison system. After his appointment, some of the Catholics in the Huntsville area began to attend Mass at the prison.
During World War II, Father Herman Vincent came regularly to visit the German prisoners of war housed in the Huntsville area. He began offering an afternoon Mass on the Sam Houston State University campus for the small local Catholic Community. This little group began praying and working for a church of their own and collecting funds for a building.
Eventually enough money was acquired to purchase property on the corner of 17th Street and Avenue N and the small Protestant church building pictured at right, which was moved onto the land and restored to suitable condition.
The first Mass in the church was celebrated on Christmas Day 1946. The tiny congregation was a mission of Sacred Heart Church in Conroe until 1951, when it became a mission of St. Joseph Church in New Waverly.
Under the pastorate of Father Jack Jones, property was acquired on 16th Street and the present church was built in 1964. That same year the church received parish status. Father Joseph O'Brien, O.M.I. was named the first pastor. The Oblate Fathers administered St. Thomas the Apostle until 1986, when diocesan priests took charge of the parish.

Give us vision
Give to us clear vision that we may know where to stand and what to stand for -- because unless we stand for something, we shall fall for anything.
