St. Vincent's Church History

Séipéal Naomh Uinseann – (1871)

Tugadh faoi Shéipéal Naomh Uinseann a thógaint sa bhliain 1855, naoi mbliana tar éis an Ghorta. An tAthair Pádraig Ó Mongáin ó Chill Chonla, an Dún, Baile an Bhuineánaigh, a thug faoi dtogra seo. Seán Rua Ó Mainín ó Ghort na Lice a bhronn láthair an tséipéil. Bailíodh £220 láithreach bonn. Sholáthraigh muintir na háite na hábhair tógála, tharraingíodar ar an láthair iad agus dheineadar freastal ar na ceardaithe. Ach, cuireadh stop leis an obair i Mí Lúnasa, 1856 de cheall airgid. Shiúil an tAthair Ó Mongáin an deoise ó cheann ceann ag bailiú airgid. Críochnaíodh an tógáil ar deireadh agus cuireadh an ceann air. Ó Choill na Tóime in aice le Cill Áirne a tugadh adhmad an chinn agus slinn Chill Dálua a cuireadh mar dhíon air. Osclaíodh an séipéal i 1871. Leac chuimhneacháin do dhúthracht agus do chreideamh na ndaoine seo agus do mhisneach an tsagairt a stiúraigh iad, is ea Séipéal Naomh Uinseann.

St Vincent's Church – (1871)

The building of St Vincent's Church was undertaken in 1855, nine years after the Famine. Father Pádraig Ó Mongáin of Kilconla, Dun, Ballyan Buineana, who undertook this proposal. Seán Rua Ó Mainín from Gort na Lice donated the site of the church. £220 was immediately raised. The local people supplied the building materials, hauled them to the site and served the craftsmen. But, the work was stopped in August, 1856 due to money laundering. Father Ó Mongáin walked the diocese from one end to the other collecting money. The construction was finally completed and the head was put on. The timber of the head and the slinn of Kildálua which was used as a roof were brought from Coillna Tome near Killarney. The church was opened in 1871. A monument to the dedication and faith of these people and the courage of the priest who led them, is the Church of Saint Vincent.

The power of Christian prayer Teach me
Teach me, O God, to use all the circumstances of my life to-day that they may bring forth in me the fruits of holiness rather than the fruits of sin. Let me use disappointment as material for patience: Let me use success as material for thankfulness: Let me use suspence as material for perseverance: Let me use danger as material for courage: Let me use reproach as material for longsuffering: Let me use praise as material for humility: Let me use pleasures as material for temperance: Let me use pains as material for endurance.
