Who we are
We are a family congregation of all ages who live in Stoborough and the surrounding area. We meet on Sunday mornings to spend time getting to know Jesus, to worship Him, be transformed by His love and be equipped to deal with whatever life throws at us.
Our Beliefs
We believe that God made each one of us on earth and that we belong to Him. He loves us and wants us to fulfil our potential, to live life to the full and enjoy the freedom of being His children.
We believe that God is interested in all life, from the smallest detail to the biggest issue we face.
We would love to meet you and share in your journey of life. We don’t claim to have all the answers and we know that real life can be very hard at times.
But it’s possible to know Gods peace, joy and love even through life’s ups and downs.

Leader Bio:
In 2011 John Smith and his wife Lynne moved to Church Knowle from Winchester, where they had been living for 33 years, being involved in a community type church for the whole of that time serving in various ways over the years.
“We have three boys, two of whom are married and live in Winchester and Bournemouth, they are both teachers. Our youngest son lives in Winchester and works with IT.
Setting up our Alpaca smallholding has been a step of faith, hard work and a steep learning curve! We are thrilled to be part of the family of SBC where we have been made to feel very welcome and we do our best to contribute where ever we can.”

Stoborough Baptist Church History
Conception
The Church began its life as a ‘church plant’ from Emmanuel Baptist Church in Swanage in the year 2000, meeting initially as a Home Group with other Christians in the local community.
This was an answer to the faithful prayers of a small group of ladies who had been praying for a Baptist Church in the Wareham area for some time.
Having discovered the availability of Stoborough Village Hall, and believing this was God’s provision for us, the leap of faith was taken in April 2001 to hold an evening service there each Sunday.
This small church family struggled with growing pains, successes and failures, laughter and tears, joys and sorrows (real family life), but a faithful God held us in the palm of his hand.
In May 2003 it was decided that if we were to grow further as a church and play our part in serving the Stoborough and Wareham area we needed to move to a morning service. Ten people from the Swanage Church committed themselves to come for two years and join the Stoborough congregation and support it through these early days. Two couples accepted the responsibility under the Swanage leadership to endeavour to take the Church forward.
In 2005 a speaker who came to “practice” on us was coming towards the end of his training at Bristol Bible College and he and his wife were wondering and praying about God’s future plans for them. Little did we know that God was drawing them towards us and the church towards them. Stephen Coles and his wife Lesley accepted the call to Pastor us, initially on a part time basis. They were inducted on the 24th February 2007and became our full time Pastor in 2010.
Birth of the Church
As the Church grew the time came for us to stand on our own feet and the process of transition began. We were accepted by the Baptist Union of Great Britain as an independent Church to be known as Stoborough Baptist Church and were ‘launched’ at a wonderful service of ‘Birthday Blessings’ on 27th November 2011.
We began our first year in 2012 with generous support from the Baptist Home Mission Fund who had the imagination and vision to invest in us and we are so grateful.
Growing Up
We are blessed by an ‘All Age’ congregation with lots of families and children. We celebrate continued Baptisms and new members.
Who could have imagined over all the years that we would come to this day in “Our Story”. At best our imaginations are limited but we worship a God who’s imagination knows no bounds, who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to His power that is at work within us. To Him be Glory in the Church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, forever and ever Amen.
