Who we are
Welcome to Our Spiritual Home
We take the Methodist motto “open hearts, open minds, and open doors” very seriously. When we say all are welcome, we mean all.
Our friendly congregation represents a diverse range of backgrounds, experiences, interests, abilities, and opinions which means you’ll feel right at home!
We work together to learn more about God and how we can use what we believe to change our lives and the lives of people in our community. Our three guidelines for everything we do are…
Faith – We believe in a loving God who created each person with a future and purpose. Hope – We trust that God wants the best for us and works with us to create better tomorrows. Love – We believe God is love. And God’s greatest gift is sharing that love with us.
We urge you to visit with us, worship with us, celebrate with us, mourn with us, serve with us, and consider joining us for this adventure called life!
For worship days and times as well as on-line worship information, please visit our website at https://www.susanvillemethodist.org/ We look forward to meeting you in person or online!

Susanville United Methodist Church History
Serving Susanville Since 1861
Over a century of Methodist ministry in Lassen County began in 1861 when circuit riders from Oregon served the entire Honey Lake Valley reaching out to people living in this frontier area. A Sunday school was begun by Susan Roop Arnold and Dr. Cetus Spaulding and met in the old school house; worship services were held in Susanville’s court house.
The first Methodist church building was built in Susanville in 1875 under the pastorate of Rev. Warren Nims, and church services officially began in 1876. Fire destroyed the church in 1900, and a new brick church was built on the same site at the corner of Lassen and Cottage streets.
In 1915, fire again hit the church, leaving just the outer brick structure standing. This shell was restored to its former design, except for the bell tower, using as much of the old building as possible. Additions have been made over the years, including a fellowship hall, built in 1967. The sanctuary was renovated in 2002.
Our spiritual forbearers, John Wesley, Jacob Albright, and Philip William Otterbein, worked and prayed for people to open their souls to God’s grace, to be reconciled to God and one another, and to become disciples in a community of believers. Susanville United Methodist extends their vision into the 21st century.
