Who we are
The Cathedral Church of the Redeemer is the first Anglican church to have been constructed in what is now the Diocese of Calgary.
From the beginning it has been an integral part of Calgary's history. The original Church of the Redeemer, a wood frame building erected just east of the present site, was completed and opened for worship August 3, 1884. It was proclaimed a Pro [temporary] Cathedral on Feb. 14, 1889, following the creation of the Diocese of Calgary. It was designated a full Cathedral in June of 1949, when it was obvious that a large edifice of British or European proportions would not be built in Calgary.
The present structure was erected during the era of sandstone building construction following the turn of the century. It was completed and opened for services on July 30, 1905. In September, 1974, the Cathedral building was designated a Registered Heritage Site, under provisions of the Alberta Heritage Act, 1973.

The Cathedral Church of the Redeemer Service Times
Sunday Services
On Sunday mornings, the Holy Eucharist (or Mass, Communion or Lord's Supper) is celebrated twice.
The 8:00 a.m. service is a Said Eucharist according to the Book of Common Prayer with a brief homily, typically lasting 35 minutes. Coffee and light refreshments are served after the service in the Narthex.
The 10:30 a.m. service is a Sung Eucharist with full choir and sermon according to the Book of Alternative Services, typically lasting 75 minutes. Coffee and light refreshments are served after the service in the Parish Hall. The Cathedral Choir is on hiatus after evensong on the third Sunday in June until the Sunday after Labour Day. On most Sundays in the summer, music is provided by a soloist drawn from the choir.
The service of Choral Mattins and Sermon replaces the Sung Eucharist at 10:30 a.m. on approximately four Sundays per year.
The service of Choral Evensong is offered at 4:30 p.m. on the third Sunday of every month between September and June.
All Sunday services are celebrated at the High Altar.
Weekday Services
The Holy Eucharist is celebrated on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 12:15 p.m., typically lasting 25 minutes.
Candlelight Vespers is sung in the Nave of the Cathedral on Thursdays at 6:15 p.m. from October through March. This beautiful, contemplative half-hour service of chant, silence, and candlelight is based on the ancient monastic rite sung at the close of day. Led by the Cathedral Choir, the service is sung in its entirety.
Morning Prayer is held at 8:30 a.m on Mondays-Fridays. The service typically lasts 15 minutes.
It's been more than 8 years since the last service times update. Please make sure to contact the church to confirm service times.
