Who we are
The Parish of the Good Shepherd embraces both traditional and contemporary styles of worship and includes people from many different backgrounds and faith traditions. A worshipping community that reflects the wider world around it, many children, young people, families, and seniors find a spiritual home in the parish as it constantly seeks new ways to share the Good News. Defining features of the Good Shepherd Community are hospitality toward others and a sense of family among its members, creating a space for everyone to grow in faith and in service.
Hospitality consists of ... “the creation of a free space where the stranger can enter and become a friend instead of an enemy. Hospitality is not to change people, but to offer them space where change can take place. It is not to bring men and women over to our side, but to offer freedom not disturbed by dividing lines. It is not to lead our neighbour into a corner where there are no alternatives left, but to open up a wide spectrum of options for choice and commitment." (Henri Nouwen)
“God as love is experienced not in large organizations and institutions but in communities in which people can embrace each other.” (Jürgen Moltmann)

Under 12s:
Ministry to children beyond Nursery age at the Parish of the Good Shepherd centers on the Godly Play method and is intended to allow children to discover God in a way that is appropriate for them.
Designed for children 4 to 12 years of age, the Godly Play approach is now widely used across the US and the UK.
There are nine accredited storytellers at the parish and two certified trainers who oversee training across Newfoundland and Labrador.
Throughout the year there are also many events for children and their families in our parish and they include both a Children's Christmas Pageant and a Children's Eucharist at Christmas, as well as other special services like Christingle and Thanksgiving that involve our children. Children are also involved in our liturgy in a special way every Easter. The parish picnic in June is always popular with our children and their families.
