Who we are

Our Ministry – Unionville Missionary Baptist Church is a group of baptized believers who are under the headship of Christ and the leadership of the Pastor. Our mission is to lead the lost, stir the Saints and heal the hurt of others by professing Christ, promoting the church and praying for the community. Unionville Missionary Baptist Church is a group of believers who are anchored in Christ, the church and the community. It is “A House of Healing.”

We Believe

That the Holy Bible was written by men divinely inspired by God, the author, with Him as its beginning and with salvation for its end.

That there is one and only one, living and true God in three persons (the Father, the Son and the Holy Ghost). God is an infinite intelligent Spirit, inexpressibly glorious in holiness, and worthy of all possible honor, confidence, and love.

That we were born into Holiness and transgressed into sin which is punishable unto death but our salvation is Holy Grace through the Son of God who died for our sins.

That in order to be saved, we must be born again by confessing our sins, accepting Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior, embracing the Holy Spirit in connection with Divine truth and observing the ordinances of Baptism and the Lord’s Supper as commanded by Christ.

That as a body of baptized believers we are to live to serve God, lift up the name of Jesus and spread the Gospel to all generations.

Leader Bio:
The incomparable Dr. I. Edwin Mack, was led to become the Pastor of Unionville Missionary Baptist Church (the “Ville”) in the year of our Lord nineteen hundred and eighty-six (1986). He continues to serve in that capacity and holds the distinct title of being the longest tenured Pastor in the Ville’s one hundred and forty-six (146) years of existence. Under the headship of Christ and Dr. Mack’s leadership, the church membership and discipleship has grown exponentially.

In response to our increase, he orchestrated the purchase of a 38,208 square foot facility which is now the main campus of our current location at 3837 Houston Avenue. God continued to enlarge our territory when Dr. Mack negotiated the purchase of what is now the “I. Edwin Mack Worship & Fellowship Center,” thus extending the church campus by 16,811 square feet to 3820 Houston Avenue.

In obedience to his God-given vision, Dr. Mack led the disciples of the Ville to ceremoniously liquidate a 30 year $2.1 million dollar mortgage for these properties within 17 years. In addition to these and countless other accomplishments and contributions to our congregation and community, he has been blessed to serve as the President of the Sixth District of the General Missionary Baptist Convention, Inc. from 2003 to present.

Dr. I. Edwin Mack is a native of Cochran, Georgia. He is married to the former Eloise Cliett of Byron, Georgia and father to Brittany Mack. He is a mentor, preacher, teacher and revivalist par excellent who uses his infinite gifts to lead the lost, stir the Saints and heal the hurt of others by professing Christ, promoting the church and praying for the community. He is a firm believer in the Word of God, is always pleased, proud and privileged to be called His servant and is forever careful to give God the praise and the Glory! Amen!   Edit

Unionville Missionary Baptist Church History

Unionville Missionary Baptist Church was founded in 1865. Unionville Missionary Baptist Church has the historic distinction of being the first Black Baptist Church in the Unionville community. It has been active service since 1865.

Prior to 1865, Baptist and Methodist, both black and white, worshiped together. In 1865, white believers decided that they no longer desired to worship with their black brethren. Consequently, black congregates were without a place to worship.

Later in 1865, a wealthy land owner by the name of Mr. Wyler, donated land for a black church to be established. Mr. Wyler stipulated that the first black Baptist or Methodist to place timber on the land and sit on it all night would be awarded the deed to the land. Shortly thereafter, two enterprising black Baptists, Lee Buckman and John Josey, retrieved the timber from their bed, placed it on the property and remained there until the following morning to await Mr. Wyler’s arrival. Seeing this, Mr. Wyler donated and deeded land at 1610 Pio Nono Avenue to establish the Unionville Missionary Baptist Church. Rev. Pollack served as the first pastor.

This valuable historical information was provided by Mrs. Lula T. Edwards, our former Church Historian.

On October 1, 1994, the Unionville Missionary Baptist Church relocated to a new site at 3837 Houston Avenue under the leadership of Pastor I. Edwin Mack. This facility encompasses 38,408 square feet. This building occupies four and a half acres of land.

The first sermon preached by Pastor Mack on October 2, 1994 was “Why Should We Make a Joyful Noise,” taken from the scriptural passage Psalm 100:1 A Psalm of Celebration. The central theme of Unionville is: “A Church With A Mission, A Minister With A Message”

The power of Christian prayer When we stumble...
O Lord our God, Who has called us to serve You in the midst of the world's affairs, When we stumble, hold us; when we fall, lift us up. When we are hard pressed with evil, deliver us. When we turn from what is good, turn us back and bring us at last to Your glory.
