Unity of Santa Maria History
Unity of Santa Maria began as a ten member study group in the mid 1960’s. In 1968, under the leadership of Reverend June Jones, the Unity Church of Santa Maria was founded. Chartered in 1969, it elected its first Board of Directors and conducted weekly services and classes.
In 1971 it purchased a one-acre parcel of land located at 1165 Stubblefield Road in Santa Maria. Services and classes were held in the building that is known today as the June Jones Activity Center.
In 1986, construction began on the main sanctuary known as the Unity Chapel of Light. The late Charles Dorsey served as architect and supervised the entire project.
In 1990 after more than 20 years of dedicated service, June Jones retired. Pastor James Schrotel assumed ministerial leadership.
