University Heights Baptist Church History
University Heights Began as an outreach of the Stevens Street Baptist Church with careful planning from the Stone Association of Southern Baptists, DOM Rev Michael Prowse, and Missions Development Committee chaired by Dr Joe Wiles. The first Sunday service was held on July 12, 1992 Dr Joe Wiles, Baptist Student Union Director at Tennessee Technological University, became the first interm pastor and the church began meeting in the Seventh Day Adventist Church building located at 1555 Gainesboro Grade on Sundays and Tuesdays.
Two years later, on July 24, 1994, with 41 charter members, University Heights was constituted as a church, affiliated with the Stone Association of Southern Baptists, Tennessee Baptist Convention, and the Southern Baptist Convention. Also during this period of time the Seventh Day Adventist decided to sell the building and the University Heights Baptist Church voted to purchase the building.
The church has an openness to people from all socio-economic, educational, and ethnic backgrounds. This church desires to minister to the community in innovative and creative ways, touching people where they are, when they are in need, and sharing Christ with them.

Learn to know Christ
Learn to know Christ and him crucified. Learn to sing to him, and say, Lord Jesus, you are my righteousness, I am your sin. You have taken upon yourself what is mine and given me what is yours. You have become what you were not so that I might become what I was not.
