Who we are
Our Beliefs
God — Creator and Sustainer of the world who is Holy, righteous and merciful.
Jesus Christ — The fullness of God in human form who came to earth to reveal God’s mercy to humanity and to pay the price for sin by dying on the cross.
The Holy Spirit — Part of the Trinity, which is the full presence of God on the earth today. The Spirit is our Advocate and enabler to live the life acceptable to God
The Bible and its use — God's Word telling of His story with humanity, showing how to live in relationship with Jesus Christ and with others.
Baptism — To occur upon believing, and is an outward sign of obedience to God which reflects the work of God which has occurred in a believer's life.
Basis for welcoming people into membership of Church — Upon a request for membership, one or two courses may be taken. If the person has membership in another church, a letter of recommendation is requested from that church, otherwise two or more members visit and interview the person then provide a letter of recommendation to a church meeting. All people who are accepted into membership must have undergone believer's baptism. Upon acceptance at a church meeting, the person is welcomed into membership at the next celebration of the Lord's Supper.
Lord's Supper — Sacrament in which the wine and bread represents Christ's blood and body, and in which we remember Christ's sacrifice and resurrection. It is an open table.
The human condition — Humans are born as sinners and there is nothing that we can do to earn reconciliation with God. Reconciliation comes only through accepting the gift of salvation offered through the work of Christ.
Role of the Pastor — The shepherd of the congregation who is part of the church community and is the primary provider for pastoral care. They are in charge of the pulpit, preaching or organising speakers for messages in the service, and expected to be prepared to lead with the Lord's Supper.
Role of the congregation — They are part of the decision-making process through the church business meetings and have the expectation to be salt and light for Christ in the community.
Involvement in wider BUV ministries/events/gatherings — Not widely involved in recent times, although BUV representatives have now been appointed. The Secretary and Treasurer have been involved in training, and we are starting to have some church members engaging through attendance at the 'Gathering'.
Place of prayer in life of believer/Church — Prayer is part of the weekly church service which includes specific time for pastoral prayer. We also have our own prayer chain.

On Sunday 11th December 2016, Rev Darrell and Pam McKerlie joined our church. Darrell and Pam were born and bred in Sydney. Both have been involved in the Baptist Church for most of their lives. Darrell has been a pastor since 1971 and was ordained in 1977.
With his wife Pam they have served in Baptist churches at Kurri Kurri, Mortdale, Matraville, Grafton, Murrumbeena, Mooroolbark and Broome. Darrell & Pam are excited to be here because they have a clear call from God to join his people in Wandin. The McKerlies have one married son Andrew who with his wife Bronwyn has presented them with one grandson and two granddaughters.
Darrell enjoys gardening, photography and cooking desserts. Pam finds pleasure in needlework, card making, entertaining and occasional reading.

Wandin Baptist Church History
Wandin Baptist Church has been serving the community for over 100 years. Here is a short history of how the church has evolved over the years.
Early 1900's In the early 1900’s Miss Olive Clegg commenced a Sunday School in a house in Picnic Hill.
1902—1904 Home meetings were commenced by Mr Tranter overseen by Rev M.L. Murphy
1905 In 1905 the Picnic Hill Baptist Church was first built with help from the Lilydale Baptist Church. Mr Atkinson conducted musical evenings; Mr Bert Thorowgood led Christian Endeavour and Youth Group.
1917—1932 Rev JJ Proctor, a man of the people and loved by everyone served the Church
1940—45 Trevor Morris and Fred Levitt packed the Church for evangelistic meetings
1966 The Church moved to the current site and was remodelled. Bill Taylor was the Church administrator and Elsie Taylor led the Sunday School. Ron Hartly played the music and led the worship and his wife Dorothy led the Girls Brigade. Mrs Pat Edwards also led the Sunday School.
1987 Pastor Bruce Kelly was called as the first sole Pastor for Wandin Baptist. During Bruce’s ministry the church numbers increased; the little church became too small so they moved to the Wandin Senior Citizen’s Hall
1988
In July 1988 the Church was constituted as a member of the Baptist Union of Victoria with 34 members.
1993 In 1993 Revs Rowland and Jan Croucher were appointed as Pastors of the Church; the house next to the Church was purchased and established as a Community House. During this period many groups were established including a Disability Friendship Club, a Youth Group, Sunday school, Play group, Craft Group, Men’s and Women’s Bible Studies, Senior’s Group and Women’s Ministry
1995—2005 Alan Smith was appointed as Pastor and assisted in consolidating the ministry and finances of the Church. This was a period of co-operation with other churches in the community.
2006 Reverends John and Val Billingham were appointed as joint Pastors, and work commenced on the building of the present church buildings. John supervised and worked on the building of the Church. In March 2010 the building was completed and opened.
2011 In March 2011, Rev Ray McDonald was inducted as an Intentional Interim Pastor to work through any remaining issues in the Church and to prepare the Church for a future pastoral appointment.
2012
In November, 2012, Rev Neville Kellam was inducted as pastor and remained so until the end of November 2015. Pastor Neville’s ministry was characterised as a period of consolidation in the church. His preaching was encouraging, inspirational and appreciated, and he with his wife Dorothy were much loved.
