Who we are
Spreading the good news of Jesus Christ to the city of Altona and surrounding areas
Vision
As members of the Christian faith, following the traditions of the Baptist Church, we affirm and assert the importance of sharing our faith in Christ, recognising his supreme sacrifice and resurrection that leads to repentance, salvation and life everlasting.
Seeking to become a better church by living according to God's Word, praying, loving the Lord, and believing God's promises. Desiring to see our Church as a thriving place of worship in the years ahead.
Going to people rather than expecting them to come to us. To extend a genuine hand of friendship and fellowship to those outside our Church.
Encouraging specific prayer, expecting God to answer.

Altona Baptist Church History
The fellowship of believers gathered in the Progress Hall every Sunday for the next 4 years, when they bought a building from the Tylden Baptist Church, not far from Woodend, and had it transported to Altona on trailer pulled by a steam tractor (I wonder how long it took).
It was erected on the block next to the Progress Hall in Sargood St and in 1928, during the ministry of AG Coventry, the congregation officially became the Altona Baptist Church and were constituted into the Baptist Union of Victoria with Laurence and Annie recognised as Foundation Members.
In 1931, the Progress Hall and the land on which it stood, was purchased by the Church Members and the Hall got a face-lift to make it more like a Church.
Soon after World War 2, the Hall was rotated to face Sargood St, where it stands today - after quite a few face-lifts.
The Tylden building was used as a Sunday School until it was demolished in the 1960s and replaced with the present Church Hall.
