Who we are
Aspen Park is a church that is about helping all peoples to fulfill the purpose that God gave us. Our gathered worship times seek to direct families to glorify God through singing, praying, giving, and the dynamic and relevant preaching of the Bible. Aspen Park Baptist Church History
The Early Years
Aspen Park Baptist Church began in 1963 as Clayton Baptist. The membership of First Baptist Church Broken Arrow, had been praying for Gods will regarding where to begin a mission. The Old Paths Pentecostal Church was for sale, so FBCBA decided to use a monetary gift (willed by the Clayton family of FBCBA)to purchase this land and its structures.
The surrounding area was mostly farmland, with no evangelical witness for several miles. Several enthusiastic families from FBCBA began to prepare the buildings for use and to canvass the area for prospects. The first service was held June 7, 1963 with about 50 people in attendance. This was the beginning of the Clayton Baptist Church Mission, named for the donors who made the mission possible.
The existing buildings on the property consisted of a concrete block building and a small white house, which had been a parsonage. There was a steeple on top of the concrete building containing a big cast iron bell, and a rope hung down into the hallway to ring the bell.
On May 2, 1965 the mission became a self supporting congregation. A number of the original families returned to FBCBA while some remained.
More land was purchased to the north, of the present property line. A new sanctuary and nursery were built in 1968 and dedicated in 1969. The sanctuary and kitchen were later reconfigured to make more space in the sanctuary. In 1979 the north end of the building was built and more land was purchased to the southwest of the church.
A Flourishing Church
In 1989 Clayton Baptist once again looked to FBCBA for financial support and people to help move past hard times.
In 1990 Pastor David Crump was called to Pastor. We parted ways with FBCBA in 1992 at which time the name was changed to Aspen Park Baptist Church. Pastor David Crump retired after serving for 29 years.
2020 brought in a new Pastor, Dr. Cameron Whaley, and a new Associate Pastor of Worship, Sean Muzljakovich.
The purpose that gave birth to our church and to the movement of God at Aspen Park still prevails as we cultivate a community of believers who are Pursuing God by Equipping the Church and Reaching the World.
