Berthoud Spanish Foursquare Church History
143 years ago the first religious group in Berthoud was formed: The United Brethren congregation. This organization was formed in 1874 and mostly consisted of members gathering together in their homes and other meeting places for their religious practices. In 1904, with the help of Carrie McCormick and a generous friend, the United Brethren congregation was able to purchase land to build the Berthoud church. However, the church did not become part of the Foursquare Church organization until 1956 after it was purchased by the English Foursquare church from the United Brethren congregation.
Once the Church Became the Berthoud Foursquare Church, the first pastor of the church was Pastor Adolf who led the English Foursquare congregation for four years. After those four years there were many pastors in and out until the English congregation closed the church in 1962. This was not the end, obviously. In 1965, Carrie McCormick, the woman who helped to fund and build the church, again, generously funded the reopening of the Berthoud Foursquare church for the Spanish congregation.
After this switch from the English congregation to the Spanish congregation, The Berthoud Foursquare Church was pastored by 10 or more different pastors until 1989 when the current pastor, Pastor Steve took over, whose father: Pedro, had also been one of the congregations Pastors for 7 years on and off between Pastors: Ruben, Mary, Ephrain, and 5 others who did not lead the congregation longer than a year.
Today the Berthoud Foursquare Church is led by Pastor Steve, who has led the church since 1989. Though the Congregation has gotten smaller over the years, the church still stands and remains active and strong to this day.
