Children and Youth Activities

Under 12s:
KIDz Ministry

Our KIDz Ministry seeks to share the love and grace of Jesus Christ in a structured and safe environment. All of our children’s workers (paid and volunteer) have been interviewed and screened, including background checks. We believe that church should be the safest place in the world for your children and that you should not have to worry about your child’s safety when they are involved in one of our programs.

Our desire is for you and your children to know Jesus Christ in a real and personal way and to grow to spiritual maturity in Christ. Our children’s teachers love children and love Jesus. They look forward to helping your children learn about Jesus and His love for them!

During both Sunday morning worship services and Bible Study, we offer nursery for infants through age 3. Staffed by a loving and committed group of volunteers and paid staff, you can have peace of mind knowing that your child is being cared for while you are attending worship or Bible study. Your children are always welcome to attend the worship services with you as a family. For the convenience of nursing mothers, a “Mom’s Hide-Away” is located in foyer across from the Women’s Restroom.

For older children, we offer KIDz LIFE (Sunday School) for Pre-school through 6th grade on Sunday mornings from 9:45-10:45 a.m.

In KIDz LIFE, children are taught age appropriate life lessons from God’s Word. The Bible is always foundational for all of our teaching at Bethel. The Gospel Project is currently being used as our Bible study curriculum for all of our preschool and children’s life groups.

Bethel Students

We gather for Sunday School at 9:45am where the students walk through Scripture together in small groups and get a consistent opportunity to interact with the text. We then meet for a student service from 6pm to 8pm with the doors opening at 5:30pm. The students get a chance to enjoy community building activities, worship time through music, a biblical lesson, and small group discussion. We then have an activity called the Aftermath (ends at 9pm) where we give the students another opportunity to enjoy various games and activities for those who can stay. Some of these activities have included Human Foosball, Mario Kart, and Spoons.

Bethel Baptist's Student Ministry (6-12th Grade) seeks to develop young men and women of faith who will be life-long followers of Jesus Christ.

Bethel Baptist Church History

Bethel began as a church plant in September of 1951, when 55 men and women from First Baptist Church of Alamogordo stepped out in faith to start a new mission work in the area. Meeting in a small building on 10th Street, the church soon outgrew its facilities. In 1956, Bethel dedicated a new worship facility at 900 Jefferson and added an education building in 1959.

In 1963, the church purchased property on Scenic Drive that would become Bethel’s new home. During the 1960s, the church continued to grow, adding new believers as well as members from a sister church, Heights Baptist Church. With more people coming into the church, the leadership began to plan for the future. In May 1973, the original Worship Center on Scenic Drive was dedicated as the S.D. Davis Building and in 1977, a Gymnasium was dedicated as the Andy Hendrix Center.

Because of continuing growth, the church agreed in 1989 to build a new Worship Center and to renovate the existing Davis Building. The new Worship Center was dedicated on December 22, 1991. This beautiful 500 seat sanctuary, which includes a picturesque window looking out into the Sacramento Mountains, is currently being used as Bethel’s primary Worship Center.

Responding to a need for more Bible study space, the church once again expanded its campus, dedicating a new Education & Conference Center on March 6, 2011. This modern facility, with 11 classrooms, fellowship kitchen, and prayer room, houses weekly Bible study classes in addition to hosting fellowships, conferences, seminars, and community events.

For over 65 years, God has richly blessed Bethel Baptist Church. By God’s grace and for His glory, we have seen our fellowship of believers continued to grow and impact our community and world with the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Like the original 55 men and women who stepped out in faith to begin Bethel, we are called on to step out in faith to continue the mission which they started. No one is here by accident or coincidence. God has brought us here for such a time as this. The best days for Bethel are out in front. The mission continues . . .
