Blessings Christian Church History
Clearly, it was Divine Intervention.
Blessings Christian Church needed a forever home. Stanley Avenue Baptist Church needed more fannies in pews.
"I would attribute this to God's providence," Pastor Bill DeJong says of the happy coincidence that has led to the merging of two congregations and the salvation of a beautiful old building that is now once again full of fellowship and prayer.
Built in 1905, Stanley Avenue Baptist Church (which once faced Stanley, but now turns to Locke Street South) had for decades been a spiritual and social hub for the Kirkendall neighbourhood. However, as is the story of many of Hamilton's places of worship, membership has dwindled over the years, leaving only about 30 stalwart congregants to attend Sunday services.
Meanwhile, Blessings Christian Church was in its infancy, having launched in January 2015 without a permanent location. For a while it rented a building on Concession Street, but outgrew it fast. DeJong and others from Blessings began looking for a church to rent on Sundays.
Someone from Blessings got talking with someone from Stanley and …
Pastor Paul Percy of the Stanley church invited them in.
