Who we are
The most frequently unasked questions about the Church of the Nazarene are , “Where does the name come from? What does it mean?”
Jesus was born in Bethlehem, but His parents, Mary and Joseph, were from a town further north called Nazareth. Some time after He was born, they moved back, and that is where He was raised. Someone from Nazareth was called a “Nazarene.” So Jesus is “the Nazarene.”
To call ourselves “The Church of the Nazarene” rather than the Church of Jesus Christ, or something similar, means to us that we identify with the Man Jesus, the One who is the Son of God, but who while He was on earth was a humble, unassuming Servant to all.
Consequently, our mission is learn what it means to be like Jesus, and live that out in the world around us.
To find out more about the Church of the Nazarene in general, please visit the denomination’s website, nazarene.org. The “Who We Are” drop down lists our Articles of Faith. To find out more about us, feel free to contact us, or even better, drop in and visit this Sunday!

“Then the King will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world. For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.’ Then the righteous will answer him, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?’ The King will reply, ‘I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me.'” Matthew 25:34-40.
