Who we are
The Brockport United Methodist Charge consists of the Brockport, Toby, and the Kersey United Methodist churches and is located in Horton and Fox townships in Elk Coun-ty. These three churches have nurtured and served the sur-rounding communities for over 100 years.
Each church has its own individual history, style of Sunday morning worship service and special events. The Brockport UMC hosts monthly Saturday morning pancake breakfasts in the fall and winter months and an annual Chicken BBQ and Bake Sale. The Toby United Methodist Church hosts an annual auction and Christmas Dinner. The Kersey UMC hosts Boy Scouts of America, an annual Yard Sale and various holiday bake sales. The Kersey UMC also joins the other Kersey churches in an annual Christmas Church Tour.
Although individual churches, the parishioners of each church worship together at special worship services during Lent, Easter, Advent and Christmas. Charge-wide Bible studies and Vacation Bible school are also held, as well as a Summer picnic. In addition to the Charge supporting the local ministerium and community service organizations, the Charge "Mission Pennies" are collected each Sunday and given quarterly to United Methodist organizations and various charitable and community foundations.
COVENANT FOR THE BROCKPORT UNITED METHODIST CHARGE
We recognize that although we are three separate congregations we are one in Christ. Therefore, we will support each other in the following ways:
In recruiting and developing leadership,
In equipping the laity to perform ministry,
To intentionally enter, maintain and encourage fellowship with each other,
To be sensitive to the inherent differences of our individual congregations,
To care for one another’s needs, both spiritual and temporal in times of crisis and in times of well being,
To co-operate in finding ways to bring effective ministry to our Pastor, to each other, to our communities, and to the world
To challenge each other to do good work
To relate to one another in love
To find, foster and encourage ways in which we might more effectively be sensitive to the leading of God’s Holy Spirit and collectively attain the mind of Christ.
We the aforementioned, hereby make our commitment, trusting in the grace of God to work in us that we might have strength to keep this covenant. We do this to the glory of God and the upbuilding of His Kingdom.
