Capilla de la Santisima Trinidad History
In 1953, the Trinitarian priests who were ministering to Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church in Victoria, Texas, were assisted by an order of nuns known as the Missionary Catechists of the Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary. Many of the parishioners of Our Lady of Sorrows lived in neighborhoods throughout Victoria, such as Queen City, Dutch Lane, Silver City and Yucca Heights. The nuns soon begin to give catechism classes in these various neighborhoods so that the children did not have to walk all the way to the church to take classes. One of the neighborhoods where they gave classes was in Silver City. They begin to meet on Ozark Street. They had a great turn out. Thereafter, an individual donated land and then someone else donate a barracks building to continue to hold the classes. Years later, the Trinitarian priests decided to hold a mass in Spanish in that building on Sundays. They named this gathering place Holy Trinity Chapel. The local neighborhood community called it Silver City Church.
Support of the chapel grew and in 1979 the chapel was enlarged with an addition that gave the building an L shape. Two Sunday masses and then daily masses begin to be celebrated there. In 1981, the live Stations of the Cross were started on Good Friday. This celebration continues today. The community continued to work to enlarge the chapel and in 1983, the land on which Santisima Trinidad stands now was bought. In 2007, the present Capilla de Santisima Trinidad, Holy Trinity Chapel, was established at 2901 Pleasant Green Drive, Texas.
