Who we are
At CSPC we believe through the work of Jesus, God is restoring the peace of his creation and is renewing individuals, families, cities and cultures as people trust and follow Christ.
We invite you to come as you are! We're a community of all ages and professions with a wide variety of social and spiritual backgrounds. So, you're invited to come join us. We look forward to meeting you!
Our Values
We are a community that desires, in response to God’s love, to love him in return, to love others, and to serve the world. We’re a gathering of individuals and families who are very much in need of God’s grace. We hope that the following values would mark our lives as individuals and our life as a church. Sometimes we live these out well, while other times we don’t. In such times, we trust God’s mercy and continued call to a joyful repentance and obedience.
Gospel
Christianity is not an invitation to live religiously. Instead, we believe the gospel of Jesus Christ invites us to live freely and with deep hope. God’s gift of faith frees us from our core sin and death, so that we might realize a growing intimacy with him and, responding to his love, mercy and grace, would become conduits of the same to our neighbors and the world.
Worship
The gospel of Jesus Christ calls forth an ongoing response that begins and ends in worship. In corporate gatherings as well as in our daily lives, worship is the central response of those who are followers of Jesus. We partake in this through singing, reading of Scripture, the preaching of God’s word, corporate and individual prayer, and regular participation in the Sacraments.
Community
Community is central to the nature of God (Trinity), and therefore is central to the nature of the church. The gospel is most clearly fleshed out in community. So it's not about an organization, but more an intentional way of living with others. A bi-product of authentic community is that others can actually see how the gospel changes us, revealing a new identity, becoming an explicit expression of the beauty, hope and truth of Christ’s radical love to those who have yet to know the gospel of grace.
Mission
Recognizing that the gospel is the good news for all humanity, we desire to be active, expressive, gospel representatives of God's Kingdom offering all people the opportunity to realize how Christ’s work reveals God’s passionate love for them. We are deeply committed to this calling and seek to make it known in word (teaching, preaching, conversation), prayer, and in practical care, help, and resource giving — throughout the world, our nation, and the city of Knoxville.
Service
As God’s grace changes us he actually enables us to stop thinking of ourselves and truly consider the needs of others. Through genuine acts of mercy and service we are actually revealing our new nature and new heart. In response to Christ’s love and sacrifice for us, we desire to be a community that lives sacrificially for others, whether they believe as we do or not; particularly those most in need. Through our service, we seek the welfare of our neighborhoods, our cities, and the world.
Love
Love is at the core of God’s nature, and therefore, it is our hope to be marked as a community of love. Nothing we do, say, or believe matters if it is not rooted in love. This is the love that originates only in our self-sacrificial God-Jesus Christ. In responding to his love, we reflect it as we love and worship God while self-sacrificially loving and serving one another, our neighbors, and the world.
Study
We recognize and affirm the intrinsic authority and trustworthiness of the Bible, and that its purpose is not so much intended to show you how to live a good life or simply to get more information about God. Instead, “The Bible is the story of God’s mission to redeem humanity and the world through Jesus’ death and resurrection.” Therefore, we believe there is nothing more worthy of our mind’s and heart’s deepest efforts in study than that of the Scriptures.
