Who we are
MISSION
The purpose of this Church is found in God’s Word: to ”make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to obey everything [Jesus] has commanded (Matthew 28:19-20),” to “love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind, and to love your neighbor as yourself” (Matthew 22:37-39 NIV) and to “devote ourselves to teaching, fellowship, the breaking of bread and prayer” (Acts 2:42 NIV)
VISION
I see an authentic, relevant family of faith sharing life and love in the name of Jesus Christ.
VALUES
Intergenerational mission and ministry (Luke 1:50; Psalm 78:4) - Children, teens and adults of all ages share all aspects of church life, including worship. We take seriously the recurring Scriptural mandate to pass on the faith to the next generation.
#knownandnamed (3 John 1:14) - We strive to be the kind of church where "everyone knows your name." While we do break up into small groups from time to time, we find deep community in the entire Body of Christ. Our fellowship with one another reminds us of how wide, long, high and deep the love of Christ is.
Knowing, serving, following, worshipping and believing in Jesus Christ (John 3:1-21; Matthew 25:31-46; Romans 10:8-15) - "If anyone is in Christ, they are a new creation; the old is gone and the new has come,"(I Corinthians 5:17) but discipleship (following Christ) is much more than a conversion experience. It is surrendering one's life and one's will to "take up the cross" and follow Christ. Faith is very important, but Christ's followers are revealed by the fruit they bear (Matthew 7;16) and the lives they live (Romans 12:1-2). This holistic approach to discipleship is what it means to be "born again."
Praying, praying and praying some more (Isaiah 56:7; Philippians 4:6-7) - Prayer is not a bookend at CCC. It leads and undergirds everything we do. Everything.

Beloved, let us love one another: for love is of God; and every one that loveth is born of God, and knoweth God.

Leader Bio:
Brian Coats is a pastor, preacher, communicator, teacher, writer, speaker, husband and father. An ordained minister in the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), he has been the Senior Pastor at Central Christian Church since 2012. He is responsible for providing direction and care to the entire congregation. He serves as head of staff and preaches about 48 times per year. He guides and equips lay leaders in coordinating all the church’s ministries.
In 25 years of ministry, Brian has served as a senior pastor, associate pastor, youth minister and communications director. He feels a call to passionately and compassionately share the story of the life and love found in Jesus Christ. The grace of God has transformed his life, and he has made it his life’s work to be a creative, energetic missionary of the Gospel. Prior to becoming a minister, he was a sports writer in suburban Dallas.
Brian and Nicole Coats met at Texas A&M University and have been married since 1996. They have three children: Kiley, Cailyn and Joshua. Family is the most true and pure joy in Brian’s life.
Brian spends the vast majority of his free time watching his kids play sports. He considers himself a fairly-passionate Aggie sports fan, and his favorite scriptures are Matthew 5:14-16, John 15:9-17, Philippians and Psalm 16.

Central Christian Church History
Our History
Central Christian Church began in Waco with 18 people worshipping in homes in 1867. The church was chartered in 1870. New converts were baptized in the Brazos River. A Sunday School was organized in 1874 and a building was erected in 1875. A new building was at 11th street and Washington Avenue in 1886. The church relocated to its current location on Lake Shore Drive in 1980.
Our Denomination
The Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) is identified with the Protestant “mainstream” and is widely involved in social and other concerns. Disciples have supported vigorously world and national programs of education, agricultural assistance, racial reconciliation, care of the developmentally disabled and aid to victims of war and calamity.
The denomination now counts about 700,000 members in the United States and Canada in about 3,700 congregations. Numerically, the strength of the Disciples of Christ runs in a broad arc that sweeps from Ohio and Kentucky through the Midwest and down into Oklahoma and Texas.
