Who we are

In early 1936, a vision began to stir in the hearts and minds of three families. Over the course of the next few months, a series of prayer meetings and planning sessions were held that culminated on July 22, 1936 with the Central Church of The Nazarene.

For the first couple of years, Central Church met in rented facilities (a renovated dance hall) until it was able to purchase land just north of downtown Tulsa at the corner of 13th & N. Denver. The hand of blessing was upon the church, and it quickly grew to become a very vibrant church fellowship.

In the years since, Central has relocated twice---in the early 60’s to the midtown area, and in the early 80’s to its current location on twenty acres in south Tulsa on 81st Street between Sheridan & Memorial. During those years, the church has also been selfless in surrendering people and resources to establish and build other congregations in the metro Tulsa area and around the world. Launching five churches locally in Tulsa and a school overseas in the Dominican Republic.

And the hand of blessing that was so evident in the life of the church in its formative days is still upon the church. While people have come and gone, and the generational torch has passed from one generation … to another … and yet another, the “corporate DNA” of warmth, genuineness, and a welcoming spirit of acceptance has remained in place over the years. God has intervened on a number of occasions, demonstrating without a doubt that Central Church is an important part of His Kingdom plans for this community.

While the church has a legacy and heritage to be happy about, and a rich foundation of faithfulness to build upon, what’s more exciting and engaging is the wonderful future God is calling the church to embrace. The best days of Central Church are ahead of us, and there’s a place for you to be a part of this incredible journey.

WORSHIP SERVICES

Main Worship Gathering - 10:30 AM Sunday

The Main Worship Gathering is held on Sunday's in our main worship center. We invite all generations to participate as we explore worship through a variety of means. Using a variety of musical styles, video, drama, giving, and the Word preached, this time is focused on the family getting to know God intimately. It is our prayer that you seek God and develop authentic community with others. Most people come in dress casual, but we invite you to come as you are. Children from birth through sixth grade will be in the care of Central's Discovery Kingdom ministry.

Heritage Worship Gathering - 10:30 AM Wednesday

The Heritage Worship Gathering is held on Wednesday’s at 10:30 am in Room 104. Our time together is devoted to honoring and celebrating the rich heritage of the church through singing hymns of praise from the hymnal, accompanied by piano or organ and hearing the Word preached by Pastor Steven. Following our time, we share a potluck meal together in the Atrium. It is a great opportunity to pause in the middle of week to honor and seek God and build relationships over a meal.

Mahanaim Hispanic Worship Experience - 10:30 AM Sunday

Pastor Douglas Reyes leads this time of worship with a praise band, preaching of the Word, and serious prayer. We gather upstairs in room 203. If you'd like more information contact Pastor Douglas.

CENTRAL KIDS

Central Kids is our ministry to children from age’s birth to 6th grade. We are a Nazarene Safe (link to what this means) facility that loves our children and invests ourselves into their spiritual development. Our focus is to give every child the opportunity to Explore, Discover, and Dream.

God spent 6 days creating the earth and then rested. When He looked at all He created, He said it was good. We recognize that we as individuals are all different, but so is the world that God created for us. At Central Kids, we celebrate the fact that we have a creative God.

All ages are encouraged to Explore God’s Word in a whole new way, Discover new and exciting things about God, and Dream BIG dreams. If you join us for one of our gathering times, be prepared to experience God in ways you may have never before!
