Who we are
Welcome!
Our sincere desire is to be an authentic community of diverse disciples of Christ. We don’t have a lot of glitz and glam.
We are just a bunch of ordinary people who are amazed by the extraordinary God. Wherever you are, whether searcher, skeptic, burnt by church, questioning church, or simply looking for a faith community that passionately engages the Bible and uplifts Jesus Christ through service, you are welcome to join us in a safe place where you will be welcomed and treated like family.
We hope to meet you soon!
Join us on Sunday mornings for worship at 10:30 am followed by refreshments and fellowship at 11:30 am.
We respectfully acknowledge that we gather on the traditional lands of Treaty 6 First Nations.
All of us are Treaty people, for which we are forever grateful.

Children R Us
At Chalmers-Castle Downs, children are a very important part of our community.
Our Sunday morning gatherings begin in the sanctuary with all ages. We usually begin by singing several songs, and invite people to accompany the singing with a variety of rhythm instruments. After the first part of the service, children aged 3 through 6 are invited to participate in children’s worship in the lower level classroom(s).
We have a wonderful team of teachers ready to teach age-appropriate lessons and eager to share God’s love each week. Using Scripture stories, songs, games, and even crafts, children learn about being a part of God’s creation in a safe and loving environment each week from September through June.
Families are encouraged to continue the learning and discussion at home.

"Without a sense of caring, there can be no sense of community"
(Anthony J. D'Angelo)
Our Outreach Ministry Team brings awareness to local and global needs and works on pressing social justice issues.
Together with our Community of Faith, the Outreach Team raises funds through events like the annual Walk for Mission and leads activities that make a difference beyond the four walls of Chalmers-Castle Downs. Valeda House, Bissell Centre,
Operation Christmas Child and projects through the Mission and Service Fund of the United Church of Canada and USC Canada are just a few examples.
We meet the second Tuesday of each month at 7:00 p.m. and new members are always welcomed.

Chalmers-Castle Downs United Church History
Our Unfolding History
Chalmers-Castle Downs United Church was formed on November 27, 1994 by the amalgamation of two congregations.
Chalmers United Church was established in 1911 as a Presbyterian congregation in the town of Calder.
When The United Church of Canada was created in 1925, Chalmers Church chose to be included. The current building was built in 1960.
In 1980, Castle Downs United Church began meeting in Dunluce School, in response to the needs of the growing city.
Discussions of amalgamation began in response to changing demographics, and in 1994 the marriage of the two congregations was finalized in a grand celebration. The building and washrooms were made fully accessible in 2010.
God is not finished with us yet!
