Who we are

Who We Are

First, and foremost, we are committed to declaring and faithfully living out the Gospel of Jesus Christ. The Gospel is the Good News that Jesus Christ, who was God in the flesh, was crucified and resurrected for sinners like you and me (Romans 8:6). He offered Himself as a sinless sacrifice to give us His righteousness and goodness while taking upon Himself our guilt and sins (1 John 2:1-2).

Second, our hearts respond to the grace and undeserved mercy that Jesus Christ offers to us, our hearts are melted for our self-sufficiency, pride, and arrogance, which, in turn, allows us to live and worship as a diverse and unified community. Our unity is found in Jesus Christ and in the dwelling of the Holy Spirit, as we stand in a new and loving relationship with God the Father (John 17:11, 22).

Third, this Good News is not merely for the believers in the church, but for everyone. As Jesus Christ becomes more real in our lives, the same message also moves us out into the community of Chinatown, Callowhill, Greater Philadelphia, and throughout the world. It is because of God’s love through Jesus Christ that we can both serve our neighbors and disciple believers (Matthew 29:18-20).

Finally, all that we do here at CCCnC is done with the purpose of bringing glory to God and not to any individual or for us as a church. No matter where you are in your spiritual pilgrimage, we pray that you will see the love of God, the grace of Jesus Christ, and the fellowship of the holy Spirit shine, so that we may be built up in Jesus Christ alone (Colossians 2:6-7).

The Joy Fellowship is the youth group of CCCnC, consisting of middle/high school students, ranging from 7th-12th grades. Despite the wide age gap, these youths love each other dearly and call themselves true family in Christ. At our meetings on the 1st and 3rd Saturdays of the month, you’ll find these passionate and fun-loving youths jumping up and down praising God, playing hilarious large group games, pondering tough questions as they figure out how to apply His Word to their lives, praying for the city as they walk through different parts of Philadelphia, washing each other’s feet as a way of initiating newcomers, and more.

Group meets for weekly small groups and bimonthly large groups on the first and third Saturdays of the month.

Chinese Christian Church and Center History

How We Were Formed

The Chinese Christian Church and Center (CCC+C) is a living testimony to our gracious God, who led countless men and women to bear witness to the Chinese community in Philadelphia.

The first recorded baptism of a Chinese person in the Philadelphia area was in 1856. The ensuing decades saw a gradual emergence of Chinese Bible Study groups and Sunday Schools. On September 8, 1941, the door to the Chinese Christian Center (then at 1006 Race Street) was opened under Mitzie Mackenzie’s leadership.

In June 1942, the American Baptist Churches (USA), the Episcopal Church, the Evangelical and Reformed denomination (presently the United Church of Christ), the United Methodist Church, and the Presbyterian Church (USA) united in a concerted evangelical effort to form an interdenominational Board of Directors for the purpose of supporting mission outreach among the Chinese. This led to the official incorporation of the Chinese Christian Church and Center in July 1946, when we also purchased our current premises (225 N 10th Street), establishing a new church building.

In early 1985, the congregation began to be self-supporting. It now joins efforts with different denominations and believers in Christian mission to proclaim the Good News of the Gospel of Christ.

We thank the Almighty God for His manifold blessings and for the fruits of labor of His many faithful servants. We also thank all who share in the work and ministry today. As we look to the future, we are confident that God, who began a good work in us, will carry it on to completion until the coming of Christ Jesus.
