Christ Community Fellowship History
Our History
In 1994 the Fellowship of Evangelical Baptists of Western Canada wanted to have a church plant in Cardston, Magrath, and Raymond. Dr. David and Alyce DeHaan were missionaries in Turkey for a number of years and had arrived back to Canada and were hired to come to Southern Alberta to head the church plants. DeHaans travelled between Cardston and Raymond until Raymond was able to get their own pastor. In Cardston DeHaans started having Bible Studies July 3, 1994. Worship Service began September 4, 1994. Worship Service was first held at the United Church Hall and in January, 1999 service was moved to the Tanner Senior Center and has been there since. Weekly programs for young children and teenagers were started with fun games and biblical lessons each week and these programs continue to date. Bible Studies were held weekly, some years having studies for women and men separately, and other times Bible Study for everyone together. The DeHaans retired in June, 2009 and moved to Edmonton. Cardston Baptist Church started looking for a part-time pastor and has had two interim pastors since – Bob Peters, who left when they moved to Cochrane and Roy Thiessen who took over after Bob moved and is still with the church.
