Christ Lutheran Church History
It is with great sadness that we announce the closure of Christ Lutheran Church. The congregation recently reached a continuous 305 years of worship on 14 June 2020. The congregation was formed in Mahwah, NJ, on 14 June 1715, with the current church building built in 1855, Luther Hall in 1959, and the acquisition of the House Of Hope in the late 1990s. Like many churches in similar positions across the country, declining attendance and rising costs were the primary reasons for the closure.
Any outstanding and final administrative duties will be phased out, reduced, and/or completed, and the Synod will be taking over all operations effective immediately. If you have any personal property in the church, it should be removed as soon as possible as we may not be able to guarantee access after a certain date. Please call the church at 845-357-1003 if you need access to any CLC buildings or have questions or concerns relating to the closure.
All operations for the Airmont Lutheran Cemetery will remain open and fully operational. Any questions regarding the cemetery can be directed to the church at 845-357-1003.
We will continue to leave our Facebook page active if anyone would like to reminisce, however it will not be monitored in any way, and should not be used for communications. Our YouTube channel will remain online. Our emails will remain active, but won’t be actively monitored. Our website at www.christlutheransuffern.org will expire In April 2021.
