Who we are
We have been here for over a century which is a long time in a country like New Zealand!
History1The church started out as a mission district in Blockhouse Bay. The priest from Avondale used to walk up to Blockhouse Bay to run an early morning service. The bus service would wait for him to drop him back to Avondale in time for the morning service at St. Judes. Overtime The Church of the Good Shepherd grew, and became a parish in it’s own right called St Saviour’s. When it was time to build a larger building the original chapel was transplanted and can now be visited at MOTAT, the museum of Transport and Technology in Western Springs.
The existing building was built in 2000, developing the existing site, and now comprises the church, a community hall, the office block, a Play group with outdoor play area and various rooms used by the children, youth and community groups. The church was renamed Church of the Saviour in 2000, now sometimes called COTS.
