Leader Bio:
Murray became Senior Pastor at City North in 2002 after moving from the small country town of Biloela, where he pastored for 13 years. Prior to that, Murray was a medical doctor for 10 years, before taking time out for theological studies. Even as a country pastor, he continued to do some part-time medical work to relieve the local doctors.
Murray married Debbie in 1983 and they had six children – Dave (married to Mary), Josh (married to Janelle), Matt (married to Emma), Becky, Ben (married to Melody) and Zac. Grandchildren Ezekiel (Zeke), Toby, Judah, Hannah, Hudson, Samuel, Maisie, Indiana and Emily have now joined the family. Sadly, Debbie passed away after a 10 year journey with cancer in September 2010. She is greatly missed by the family and the whole church for her love, joy and enthusiasm for serving God.
In his spare time, Murray enjoys “hanging out” with the family, brisk walking, reading biographies, and watching sport, especially the Aussie cricket team.
When asked what excites him about City North, Murray said: “I like the fact that we’re a diverse, down-to-earth group of people who relate well together across the generations. There is a seriousness about Christ, the Bible and the gospel, and we are always trying to encourage each other to live out our faith in the real world. We have a core of very gifted people with servant hearts, and some excellent ministries, and God is clearly at work. Our potential is enormous. God has also blessed us with great facilities. We are keen to keep growing, and invite others to join us as we continue serving Him together.”
