Who we are
Our Mission and Vision
Our mission: To experience community by building relationships that are Christ-centered.
Our Vision: To see the people of Conway experience community by building Christ-centered relationships that will impact Conway, South Carolina, The United States and the World.
In the Book of Acts the very first church is born and almost immediately 3,000 people join the church through believing in Jesus. The church asks the question, “What do we do now?” The answer is found in Acts 2:42, “The believers devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching, to community, to shared meals, and to prayer.” These were the four priorities of the very first church. This is what they were about and this is what Coastal Community Church is about. They experienced community by building relationships that are Christ-centered. The four priorities of the church as expressed in Acts 2:42 are the four essential priorities of Coastal Community Church. These four priorities are at the heart of every ministry and everything we do at Coastal Community Church. These four priorities create a community that is centered on Christ. These priorities are as follows:
Apostles’ Teaching (Asks the question: “How can we better teach and follow the Word of God?”)
The phrase “Apostles’ Teaching” refers to the teaching of the New Testament and Old Testament to include the New Testament’s approach to interpreting the Old Testament. The Word of God is what makes the church different from any other community. Through the Word we stir one another up to love and good deeds, we speak the truth in love, we encourage one another and we gently reprove and correct one another. To make disciples is for more mature Christians to mentor younger Christians in community teaching the Word of God.
Community (Asks the question: “How can we facilitate a sense of belonging and unity within the church?”)
The word community/fellowship is from the root word “Koinos” which means, “to have in common.” Community/fellowship means sharing with others certain things in common such as interests, goals, feelings, beliefs, and activities so that a sense of belonging and unity increases. Most importantly for the church is that we hold in common the foundational profession of every believer, “You are the Savior, the Son of the living God.” Community is the process of our church becoming knitted together in Christ that we may truly become one body (Colossians 2:2).
Shared Meals (Asks the question: “How can we nurture greater intimacy among the members?”)
This refers to the act of eating together, to share a common meal. It also refers to the practice of celebrating the “Lord’s Supper.” Sharing a meal leads to greater intimacy among members and greater intimacy with Christ.
Prayer (Asks the question: “How can we foster greater dependence upon the Lord?)
The act of communicating with God through adoration, confession of sins, supplication, intercession, and thanksgiving for God’s mercies and benefits both corporately and individually demonstrates our complete dependence on Christ. Jesus is at the right hand of the Father interceding for us. Prayer places Christ at the center of our community experience as we pray for one another and as we worship. If you have a prayer request you can send it to us here.
The Apostles’ Teaching, Community, Shared Meals, and Prayer all focus us beyond self-love to loving Jesus and loving others fulfilling the two great commands given by Jesus – “‘You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, all your strength, and all your mind.’ And, ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’” Evangelism, Missions, and Ministry all flow from loving God and loving others. Coastal Community Church is a loving, Christ-centered community that desires to build relationships that are Christ-centered.
