Who we are
At CPC we believe that life is better together. In fact, we believe that God does something special when we’re gathered in Jesus' name... we receive a healing hope that we can share when we’re scattered throughout the Lower Mainland each week. A blessing and a calling!
Whether you’ve never been to church before, or it’s been awhile, you are always welcome. Our hope is that you will encounter Jesus here so that your faith will be rooted in a real and vibrant relationship with Him. We long for you to know a genuine hope, peace and joy wherever life takes you each week.
If you're a planner, here are some helpful things you might like to know. We have one service on Sunday mornings at 10am. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we're asking that you reserve a seat for the Sunday you would like to attend. No need to dress up - we are pretty easygoing and hope you feel welcome just as you are. Whether you bring family, a friend, or come just on your own, you are welcome! We are located in the Como Lake area at the corner of Como Lake Ave & Blue Mountain Ave (parking lot access off Hailey St). You can also join us for one of our online services.
Our Mission
As a church, we are gathered to encounter Jesus and scattered to share His hope and healing.
Our Core Values
• An unapologetic focus on JESUS.
• Stubborn reliance on PRAYER.
• Foundational dependence on BIBLICAL TRUTH.
• Unified commitment to DOING LIFE TOGETHER.
• Fervent passion for SPIRITUAL GROWTH/FORMATION.
• Fresh desire for CREATIVITY.
• Steady attention to WISE STEWARDSHIP.
• Unwavering dedication to KINGDOM BUILDING.
What We Believe
At Coquitlam Presbyterian Church we hold to the following beliefs:
There is one, true God who is Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
(II Corinthians 13:14)
Jesus Christ is truly God and truly human. (John 1:1,14)
Sin separates us from God. (Romans 3:23)
Salvation comes from God's grace alone and is received by faith in Jesus Christ who has died for our sins. (Ephesians 2:8,9)
The Holy Spirit dwells within all who know Christ. He is our Comforter and Guide. The Spirit blesses us with various gifts to fulfill our ministries. (I Corinthians 6:19)
The Bible is the inspired Word of God, given to be the rule and faith and life. (II Timothy 3:16)
Jesus Christ is alive and will return to earth as Lord of Lords and King of Kings. (Revelation 17:14)

As an Ontario boy, Bernie lives the life of an exiled Leaf's fan (Lord Stanley will be a friend some day!) and a Hamilton Ti-Cats fan (Oski-wee-wee!). Nonetheless, he is glad for the grace shown him by CPC in these matters, and the love and acceptance of his awesome wife Jenn, and excellent kids Hannah, Reid and Leif!
Bernie hopes you will come and feel the welcome of a CPC family who's grateful for the privilege of being made alive and whole in Jesus. To God be the glory!

Covid-19 & CPC
Dear Friends,
In response to BC Health Officials’ new restrictions, as announced Nov 19th, we are once again temporarily suspending In-Person Worship Services.
While we love and miss our times of worship and fellowship together, nonetheless we are committed to upholding the safety and well-being of one another and our neighbours.
Please continue to pray for wisdom for our civic leaders as they make tough decisions on behalf of us all. And keep praying for all those who have been so deeply affected by this pandemic.
We are continuing with our Online worship and fellowship options – worship videos, children’s ministry videos, and weekly Zoom gatherings for Coffee Time, Prayer and Life Groups. We hope you can join us virtually!
In spite of the hardships we face, we have much to be thankful for. I would encourage you to keep gratitude as a daily focus.
Thank you for being a community that continues to love God and your neighbour, even when things aren’t easy!
Proud to be your Pastor,
Pastor Bernie

Coquitlam Presbyterian Church History
God has been faithful in guiding our congregation since September 12, 1965, when Rev. Maurice McLuhan led CPC's first service at the Simon Fraser Health Unit in Coquitlam. The following year, the congregation was officially constituted by the Presbytery of Westminister, and Rev. Ross Manthorpe was appointed as the minister.
The congregation began meeting at Porter Street Elementary School on January 1, 1971. In August of that year, Rev. Keith Wilcox became the minister and led the congregation into the building of its first sanctuary. On October 29, 1972, a dedication service was held for the new church building on the corner of Como Lake Ave. and Blue Mountain Street.
In August of 1978, Rev. Terry Hibbert and his family came to Coquitlam. Plans were drawn in 1979 for a new church sanctuary & office area. Our present sanctuary was officially dedicated on January 10, 1982. Since then our congregation and its ministries have continued to grow. In 1993, further expansion plans were drawn up to add a balcony and second floor. This was completed in 1995. Rev. Terry Hibert remained the minister of the church until his retirement in the summer of 2009.
Rev. Graeme Illman was our Lead Pastor from the fall of 2009 until 2014. Graeme guided us through a pivotal time of transition as a congregation, encouraging us to be better positioned to grow in our faith journeys, and to remember our calling to be ‘an irresistible community living out a vital message’.
We welcomed Rev. Bernie Skelding as our next Lead Pastor in the fall of 2015, and we are glad that he shares our excitement for what Jesus is calling the church to be and do in our time - a gathered and scattered people - gathering to encounter the Living God; scattered so Jesus’ hope and healing gets shared with the world.
It’s an exciting time (albeit a little scary and uncertain) to be a Jesus-follower in North America, including the West Coast. God is on the move (below the radar) in our culture and within the church, gathering all to encounter Jesus afresh, so that even through our faults & imperfections God can use us to bring restoration wherever there is brokenness, and be a blessing that leaves subversive traces of faith, hope, love, grace and compassion (among other good things) that point others to the living and loving God.
What a privilege! What a joy!
